I Never Thought to Shop at This Overlooked High-Street Store—Until Now

June 10, 2020 at 06:00AM If you are well versed in the art of high-street shopping, you’ll know the immense satisfaction that comes from discovering a new brand to add to your favourites list. While I have known of Monki for years, for some reason, I had it filed under the Gen Z tab of my mental fashion folder, which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it was never at the top of my priority list when a new season appeared on the horizon. However, this season, I’ve spotted so many winning pieces offered up by this high-street brand, and these are no one-hit wonders. Acting like Arket and COS’s cool younger sister, Monki has really tapped into the niche of versatile wardrobe staples with a fashion twist. Obviously, the age demographic means you get the odd crop top and micro shorts, but honestly, as I was scrolling through its summer drop, I found myself clicking on every other item. If your style has minimalist undertones with a splash of print and colour, you’re going to love this brand. We’re talking clean-lined tailoring, graphic print tees, utility separates and throw-on dresses. I particularly love Monki’s gingham offering this season, and I would happily wear its wide-leg trousers with a white tee and the slip-on daisy mules all month long. Pure bliss. Every Time I Wear This One Necklace, I Get Dozens of Messages on Instagram

June 10, 2020 at 06:00AM Ever have an item of clothing that people can’t stop asking you where it’s from? That piece for me right now is a vintage gold chain I bought from eBay for a tenner. Every time I wear it, I get dozens of messages on Instagram about it (because the only place you’ll really see an outfit right now is on Instagram). For a fashion editor, I have a moderate following on the platform; it’s nearing the 2K mark, but it’s not huge, especially in comparison to a lot of other peers and colleagues. This isn’t to make you feel pity for my lack of social media fans but rather to highlight that my reach isn’t massive, yet followers message me about this necklace more than anything else.  For a bit of background on this piece of jewellery, I’d been hunting for a gold chain for a while. I didn’t want to spend a lot, and I was keen to find one that was also vintage to ensure it was more sustainable. Then, after months of searching, I found the perfect one on eBay, and it was only £10. It’s a shorter chain, so it rests high on my chest but not so high that it would be considered a choker. (Although, I do love those versions, too.) But perhaps the best thing about this other than it ticks my boxes of affordable and sustainable is that it goes with literally everything in my wardrobe. Whether it’s a white shirt, a leopard-print

25 Chic Stationery Pieces I’m Sure Will Increase My Productivity

June 10, 2020 at 06:00AM A snack. A cup of tea. Another glass of water. A quick check of Instagram. A WhatsApp to your friends of that funny video you saw of some woman making tea badly. Let’s be honest. These are just a few things that could be distracting when working from home. It is tough to remain productive, especially as we’re now many days into our routine of mostly staying in the house. So it’s time to pull out the big guns. And that means buying new stationery. I’m a firm believer in making sure you have your surroundings in check before you start working (I have to work with a tidy desk), and a great pen and a nice notepad are just part of that. Of course, stationery is so much more. There are the sticky notes, pencil cases, stamps, file holders, pencil pots, etc. I could go on. Instead, though, you can keep scrolling and see my edit of the chicest pieces of stationery around right now. Next up, the biggest spring/summer 2020 fashion trends to know.  Author Elinor Block | Whowhatwear Selected by CWC

My Story: Brand Founder Témi Shobowale on Beauty Standards, Authenticity and the Power of Diversity Behind the Scenes

June 09, 2020 at 10:45PM Meet Témi Shobowale, a Nigerian-born, Toronto-based professional makeup artist and entrepreneur, who is also the founder of skincare line Essentials by Temi and HerDay, a series of local meet-up events geared towards bringing together and uplifting women. Here, she shares, in her own words, her beauty brand’s story, biggest inspirations and what she hopes transpires from the large outpouring of support for the Black Lives Matter movement. On where she grew up: “I was born in Nigeria and my family immigrated to the United States when I was about eight. I’ve always grown up in and around predominantly Black neighbourhoods. Like, when we first moved to the States, we lived in the hood in Detroit, Michigan. Then we moved to Maryland, which was definitely a step up from Detroit. I eventually came out to Toronto in 2008.” On what sparked her love for beauty: “My love for beauty started with my mom, and it’s a double edged sword that goes deep. My mom was really into beauty, and anyone in my family would tell you that, when I was younger, I used to always run around in my mom’s Christian Dior red lipstick. I would sneak into her room and into her makeup kit. She always had fancy stuff that she would get when she travelled, all these different perfumes. Dior’s J’Adore is her favourite scent. She’s just a Dior person. Red lipstick and Dior Beauty is something I just noticed about her my entire

How to Give Yourself the Ultimate At-Home Pedicure

June 09, 2020 at 09:11PM If there is one thing that I have learned about myself during this period of social distancing, it’s that I really don’t take enough care of myself. As a beauty editor, this can be a hard thing to admit. You see, I do actually dedicate an hour every evening to a rather luxurious bathing session, and my twice-daily skincare routine is quite lengthy and excessive, but when it comes to just about anything else, I’m useless. Sadly, unless I have an appointment booked to remind me, everything from my brows to my nails gets totally neglected. One area in particular that I have found myself turning a blind eye to recently is my feet. Sure, I give them a good slathering of foot cream after my nightly bath and keep my nails in check as best as I can, but am I really giving them the time and love they need? Absolutely not. Usually, at this stage, I’d book myself in for a thorough pedicure. However, with salons closed, I have had to take matters into my own hands. In a bid to get my tootsies ready for summer, I reached out to my all-round nail guru (and celebrity nail artist) Jenni Draper to take me through, step by step, how to carry out the perfect at-home pedicure. This is the part of a DIY pedi that I am always keen to forgo due to its fuss and length. The truth is, though, prepping the skin on your feet is crucial

Rocky Barnes on Her New Collaboration with ALDO

June 09, 2020 at 08:53PM Late last month, Canadian footwear giant ALDO unveiled its newest collaboration with global style icon, Rocky Barnes. The collection is comprised of four footwear styles, each of which appear to have been designed for stylish summer sojourns in far-flung locales – but the good news is that each style will work equally as well for your next socially distanced BBQ or walk to the grocery. “When designing this collection, I wanted to not only make amazing shoes, I also wanted them to be comfortable,” Barnes tells us of one of her key drivers during the design process, adding that quarantine has reaffirmed her commitment to comfortable pieces. “I think comfort has always been important and post-quarantine [will be] even more so. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to start dressing up again, but even then comfort will be key.” Barnes worked closely with the team at its Montreal HQ (pre-COVID) to create her “dream summer capsule collection.” As for the jumping off point, Barnes said she “pulled ideas for the collection from styles I find myself wearing over and over again. I then added unique details to each to make them my own – from the silk rope ties to the gold shell details, marbled acrylic square heel and lizard embossing.” Thanks to the collaborative nature of the design process with the ALDO team, Barnes says her vision was brought to life. <div class="sjm-attachment-carousel–header gallery-container–default" data-slick='{"speed":400,"adaptiveHeight":true,"variableWidth":false,"centerMode":true,"centerPadding":"0","slidesToShow":1,"lazyLoad":"ondemand","prevArrow":"Previous”,”nextArrow”:”Next”}’ data-simplemodal=’false’ > 1/13 Capri High Heel Sandal ($80,
