June 09, 2020 at 02:51PM Yesterday it was announced that Toronto-based fashion entrepreneur and footwear designer George Sully is developing a digital index of Black Canadian fashion creatives, which he’s hoping to launch later next month. Sully, who is known for his brands Sully Wong—which he co-founded with Henry Wong, and House of Hayla—which he runs with partner Hayla Amini, says he was motivated to create the list because “for far too long the Black community has been marginalized when it comes to fashion and our contribution to it,” he says, adding, “I thought it best to create a platform to take away the excuses rooted in ignorance to justify exclusion.” View this post on Instagram One of our all time favs @elisabethmossofficial on set, looking sweet in her SW Salmon Lows, part of her June flashback look for season 2 of the @handmaidsonhulu #thehandmaidstale #sullywong A post shared by sully wong (@sullywongpremium) on Mar 29, 2018 at 1:04pm PDT //www.instagram.com/embed.js Right now designers can submit their names for inclusion in the project at the website Sully has launched, and he says that eventually their presence on the index will be amplified through video content. “I hope visitors, including but not limited to buyers, distributors, retailers, stylists, et cetera, come away with more of a complete picture of what black designers have to offer and how brilliant we truly are,” Sully notes. Sully initially entered the fashion world after being involved in the local music industry. “I was doing rap

I’d Never Have Guessed These £38 Sandals Were From Topshop
June 09, 2020 at 11:41AM In an era of working from home and saying in more than going out, it’s fair to say that footwear has been simplified. High-heels have been replaced with slippers, boots have been replaced with sneakers and comfort has well and truly become the key. In this sense, summer’s most popular footwear will need to adhere to a few specific categories, with comfort, ease and versatility becoming vastly important factors. With this in mind, let us introduce you to Topshop’s recent arrival. The brand’s leather twist scandals excel in all the categories above, yet also happen to be stylish and affordable, rivalling the aesthetic of a designer pair (a combination we love but don’t find very often). The pair has also won over our Shopping Editor, Joy Montgomery, who offered this somewhat glowing commentary on the shoes. “When the extent of my shoe usage while working from home consists of mooching around the living room and popping out for the occasional walk, it’s fair to say around 90% of my shoedrobe is not fit for purpose. The result? I have ended up living in slip on sandals, and alongside my Birkenstocks, this Topshop pair has been my saving grace. Comfy (the material is super soft), cool and bringing a mood-boosting pop to colour to my loungewear, they tick all the boxes. I wear with everything from summer mini dresses and knitted co-ords to jeans and floaty skirts. A serious all-rounder.” Convinced? See how Joy styles the shoes and
It’s So Predictable, But I Love Loungewear in This Colour
June 09, 2020 at 07:00AM I have a lot of grey loungewear pieces on rotation, and right now that’s very much needed. Yes, it’s highly predictable, but I love grey loungewear. I’ve got a theory about why it’s such a beloved colour for comfy clothing: It’s a soft hue, so it seems more relaxing, but it’s more sophisticated than a pastel pink, blue or yellow. Seeing as we’re not exactly going anywhere anytime soon and will still be spending a decent amount of time at home, it’s the perfect balance between comfy and smart. It stops you from looking like you haven’t cared about what you’ve put on for the day, but if you “accidentally” fall asleep in it watching Netflix, it’s not a problem. Below, I’ve created an edit of the coolest pieces of loungewear in grey. While you can definitely wear some of these pieces as co-ords à la Alexis Foreman, I’m also a fan of mixing up the different shades. Keep scrolling for the full edit. 11 ‘90s Films I Always Get Outfit Ideas from
June 09, 2020 at 07:00AM There’s no denying that the ’90s was a real golden age for movies. I can only talk for myself but as a teenager during that time, there were quite a few films that had an impact on me. Of course, a lot to do with that is whether Leonardo di Caprio was starring but there was also another reason why I still love these films today: the fashion. While Clueless is always the most often referred to there are so many other movies that should be celebrated too. Right now, thanks to our continuing obsession with nostalgia and the ’90s being a major trend for spring/summer 2020, not to mention our love of ’80s and ’70s fashion, I’m turning to those classic movies more and more for wardrobe inspiration. Keep scrolling for the 11 films I’m re-watching to help get dressed right now… Were you even a teenage girl in the ’90s if you didn’t do “light as a feather, stiff as a board” with your mates at a sleepover? The Craft is one of those films that will remain as one of my favourites of all time. While levitation attempts might have been a dud, the goth-meets-school-girl is one I will always try to replicate. Cardigans worn over white shirts is what I’m loving here. Kat in 10 Things I Hate About You was so refreshing. She didn’t try to be popular—she didn’t care. Her outfits were a mix of hoodies, long-sleeved T-shirts and combat trousers. A look I
This Under-the-Radar Skincare Brand Is a Beauty-Editor Favourite
June 09, 2020 at 06:30AM With the power of social media, it is very rare in the world of beauty that any brand can be regarded as “under the radar.” You see, every time a person of note likes something and posts about it on their Instagram, they set the whole beauty world on fire. While this is most certainly the case for the majority of brands and products, even in 2020, not everything great breaks the internet. I know we’ve discussed this before, but the reality is even when a product is really, really great, if it doesn’t look the part, the chances of it making it onto the Discover page are low. How do I know this, you ask? Well, because I’m very much in the midst of it. When you spend a lot of time around friends and colleagues who are also beauty editors, experts and specialists, you soon realise that there are two types of favourites: the buzzy ones that everyone posts about and the ones that everyone kind of wants to keep for themselves. One of the latter brands is Paula’s Choice. Founded 25 years ago by Paula Begoun, Paula’s Choice is one of the most highly regarded skincare brands around. Begoun, who has basically dedicated her life to clearing up and simplifying the skincare bubble and has written a number of brilliant books that have pride of place on my bookshelf, champions the idea that skincare should always be backed by scientific evidence and extensive product research. Essentially,
This Is How to Get Your Pores Under Control in the Summer, According to Experts
June 09, 2020 at 06:30AM As a beauty editor, I’m lucky enough to have seasoned skin experts examine my complexion on a regular basis. For years, I have had facialist after facialist tell me that my congested pores need a little help. And it’s true; they always have. Unlike those that are blessed with buttery complexions, my T-zone is plagued with blackheads, and where they aren’t present, my pores appear like cratered pinpricks all over my face. Usually, it doesn’t bother me all that much. Not because they’re not evident but because every time things start to get a little out of hand, I can go running to a facialist who I know will fix it for me. However, the last few months have seen my pore situation get out of control. Without the option of going for regular facials (honestly, who do I think I am?) and since the weather has started to heat up, my face is in a bad way. So after trying countless cleansers and scrubs and realising that relying on facials to fix an ongoing skin problem isn’t a sustainable way to move forward, I figured it best to reach out to those in the know who can teach me how to manage my pore situation on my own at home. Keep scrolling for everything I’ve learned. I did sort of already know this, but I didn’t know the ins and outs of it. I have been told countless times by experts that our pores don’t have the
