June 08, 2020 at 02:00PM In the age of lockdowns, social restrictions and event cancellations, it would be easy to assume that the concept of a trending dress might be forgone for the summer of 2020. After all, with weddings postponed, celebrations largely on hold and public spaces still closed, where would one wear such an item? Well, to their living room, apparently. Yes, although this summer is set to look a little different, that hasn’t stopped supermodels and influencers from dressing their best. In fact, models including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Romee Strijd and influencer Camille Charriere have continued to dress up and interestingly enough have gravitated towards the same floor-length maxi as their gown of choice. Designed by It-label, Cult Gaia, the brand’s Serita Dress features an interesting cut-out silhouette and woven knit fabric. It’s dressy enough to be worn to red carpet events, as Candice Swanepoel proved earlier this year, but feels just as suitable for an at-home pub crawl, as Camille Charriere exemplified. Even though we might have nowhere to go, it’s clear this Cult Gaia dress is set to be a favourite this summer. Next up, the biggest S/S 20 fashion trends you need to know. 9 Important Black Voices In Wellness We’re Amplifying Now
June 08, 2020 at 10:55AM Over the years, our emotional and mental health stories have grown to be a huge focus. Our space is rich with a wide variety of thinkers and practitioners on these topics and while we’ve already covered a lot of ground, we’re excited to bring you so much more of it this year. So far, 2020 seems to demand it. A few of the thoughtleaders we’ve featured on these topics in the past are included below, from Jessamyn Stanley who almost broke Instagram when we first featured her here to authors like Lalah Delia and Erica Chidi whose recent books have helped shape the current conversation on wellness. It was a joy to gather this list of nine black wellness thoughtleaders whose messages are steeped in lessons of mind-body wellness and personal empowerment. Although we’ve never before curated a list of brands or individuals based solely on race, with all that’s being exposed in our nation now, we’re looking to amplify more black voices than ever before. Find a new follow below… Andrea Ranae ( @andrearanaej) | We came across Andrea Ranae’s writing just this week and were blown away by her grounded wisdom. Her messages of personal empowerment resonated with us so deeply from this post that reminds black follower to define and possibly enlarge their boundaries at this time to this post on “performative activism” that clarifies what it means to be a public advocate in authenticity. 30-minute Barre Booty Workout Video
June 08, 2020 at 11:05AM This is an at-home barre workout you can do anywhere! This workout is lower body focused and only takes 30 minutes. All you need is a countertop or sturdy chair to hold onto for balance. Good morning, friends. I hope that you found some peace this weekend. Mine was filled with a lot of reflection and some solid action planning with the Pilot as we continue to listen, learn, and read about how I can better support my BIPOC community. I’ve also found some new fitness and social media accounts that I’m looking forward to sharing with you in Friday Faves. In the meantime, I’ll be offering up some of the content I had previously planned, including today’s workout video, a Father’s Day gift guide, and a new recipe. I’m coming atcha with an all-new barre workout today. Thank you for all of the awesome feedback on the videos I’ve been posting lately. I can’t walt to film with Grant again one of these days, but for now, the ol’ tripod is getting me through. For today’s workout, I wanted to do a lower body burner with some cardio blasts. One of the best things about barre is that it targets some of the smaller and often neglected muscles that can have a huge impact on function, like the glute medius, abductor and adductor muscles, and piriformis. By keeping these muscles strong, it can help to protect us when we do more traditional strength exercises,
Let’s Talk About Racism + The Wellness Industry
June 08, 2020 at 10:00AM We all want to believe we’re not racist. Even people who engage in overtly racist behaviors don’t see their behavior as racist. Our egos are a powerful thing that prevent us from seeing how our words, our actions and many times our silence and inaction can be harmful to other people. But that doesn’t make it right. And I am certainly not immune to this. This past year, and in particular the past few weeks have really woken me up to how I’ve both contributed to and benefitted from racism in this country. The wellness industry is no exception. Now I could certainly address how our entire country is built around systemic racism, I wanted to focus on the wellness industry, because it’s my industry and the one I’ve dedicated my career to for the past 8 years. It’s also the area where I feel I can have the greatest impact and I sense this is the case for you too. They say that any lasting change must begin in your home and well, this place is my home so let’s start talking. The History of Wellness The Oxford English Dictionary first recognized the word “wellness” in 1654 as “a […] The post Let’s Talk About Racism + The Wellness Industry appeared first on The Healthy Maven. These Nourishing Body Products Are Like Summer in a Tub
June 08, 2020 at 06:30AM Nothing gets me more excited for summer than a great body product. The minute the sun starts shining, the first thing I do is dust off my go-to body beauty products from summers past and slather myself in them top to toe. If you ask me, you really can’t beat the feeling of prepping your body ready for a day of sun-drenched fun. You see, while a good summer body routine leaves skin silky smooth and glowing (which in itself is sure to make you feel good), the act of actually using summery-scented products comes with its own level of joy entirely. From sun cream and sunshine to tropical cocktails and zesty fruits, when the scents of summer come all wrapped up in the form of super nourishing, skin-loving beauty products, it’s like all of the great feelings that come hand-in-hand with summer are unleashed with every single use. And do you know what? As a beauty editor that is supposed to have a passion for all things geeky and scientific, there’s a really big part of me that just wants whatever body care product I use to smell really great. As far as I’m concerned, if it does what it claims to do, what’s the harm in it smelling wonderful while it works? So if, like me, you like your body routine to come with a little bit of summer joy, keep scrolling for the summer-appropriate body care products that smell just as amazing as they feel. Chances
Every Dress I Love This Year Has This One Little Detail
June 08, 2020 at 06:03AM Summer is on its way and with it comes an influx of new seasonal trends. From tie-dye to linen, and Bermuda shorts, there are a few standout looks that certainly seems to have taken over our Instagram feeds in recent months. Though not all trends are immediately obvious, as sometimes it can be the smaller details that make a look even more impactful. Enter my favourite summer dress mirco-trend: cut-out silhouettes. Whether it be an open back detail, front key-hole or waist-enhancing side splits, cut-out silhouettes seem to be everywhere at the minute. From influencer imagery to e-comm campaigns, this interesting detail has been highlighted across high-street and designer items, proving its popularity once and for all. Whether it be Cult Gaia’s Serita dress, already worn by the likes of Rosie HW and Candice Swanepoel, or Sir the Label’s Alena Open-Back dress which has captured the attention of Brittany Bathgate and Lucy Williams, it’s clear that this summer is all about statement silhouettes. Our advice? When wearing a dress with cut-out details or an intricate design, keep the rest of your outfit relatively simple. Some understated sandals, a woven handbag and minimal jewellery will really allow the dress itself to shine. Keep scrolling to see how influencers are wearing cut-out detail dresses and then shop the trend below. Next up, the biggest S/S 20 fashion trends you need to know. Learn how to self-correct with these potent tips from holistic life coach Maytal Phillips of The Consciousness Edit… You’re blissfully happy, meditating, working out, having weekly massages, manicures and acupuncture sessions. In an ideal world we would all be on task, on time and on point. However, we’re all humans having an earthly experience — stuff goes wrong, people say things we don’t like, work gets tough, the kids throw up and you find yourself in a funk that has a kung-fu grip. What do you do in those moments where it seems like the rainy day has finally arrived? Use these tools below to immediately gain perspective and shift your mindset. 6 Magical Tools To Shift Your Mindset Take deep breaths | As humans, we still experience the fight-or-flight response to negative emotional experiences in the same way our ancestors did. The only difference is that we’re not being chased by large animals or walking barefoot in the desert to find food or water. Breathing actually lowers the flight-or-fight response by sending more oxygen to the brain and allowing the body to relax and offer you the space to deal with emotions. Start with three deep breaths to calm your body before doing anything else. Practice Gratitude | Creating the space for gratitude is
