May 20, 2020 at 06:00PM Married or not, you’ll be hooked by the endless scheming and dramatic plot twists in Korean drama The World of the Married. Based on BBC One’s drama series Doctor Foster, the 16-episode drama by JTBC has become South Korea’s highest-rated cable TV drama ever, with its finale receiving a whooping 28% viewership nationwide. Admittedly, its success is probably owed partly to coronavirus lockdown, but also partly to its realistic portrayal of the complexity of adult life, as well as social and gender inequality in Korea. In fact, the drama was rated restricted for audiences aged 19 or above due to violent content. Drama stills from JTBC The World of the Married is a revenge story with elements of Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite and Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story thrown in. Family doctor Ji Sun-woo (Kim Hee-ae) and movie director Lee Tae-oh (Park Hae-joon) have a seemingly perfect marriage until Sun-woo discovers Tae-oh’s affair with Yeo Da-kyung, a daughter of a business tycoon. While some take advantage of the breakup, others are unwillingly involved or even manipulated by the couple. Sun-woo must seek alliances while fighting her own emotions to secure her job, family and social status. Even though the drama takes place in winter, I’ve spotted a few year-round fashion staples you can include in your wardrobe this spring/summer: Luxe Sleepwear Did you notice the sexy silk robes, slipdresses and floral pajamas the characters wear while sipping red wine and replying to vicious phone calls in the middle of the night? I wonder if

Knix Expands Shade and Size Ranges With the Launch of its Groundbreaking New Knix Nudes Collection
May 20, 2020 at 05:26PM Canadian intimates brand Knix is extending its shade range today with the launch of Knix Nudes. The new collection features three of the brand’s best-sellers – the Wing Woman Contour Bra, Leakproof Underwear and Thigh Saver – in five beautiful nude shades, inspired by feedback from its customers. In fact, the brand worked with a diverse group of women to finalize the inclusive five shade range, which it says matches an “array of skin tones.” The collection, which has been a year and a half in the making, also features one pretty giant first: the brand is the first underwear label to ever offer leakproof underwear in neutral colourways. The brand conducted a poll of its Instagram followers and found that 87 per cent of women avoid wearing light colours when on their period, and even amongst those that do opt for a lighter colour, 92 per cent worry about a leak. Photograph courtesy of Knix “Wearing light colours is always tricky for women because finding intimates that match your skin properly can be tough, add your period on top of that, and it can feel next to impossible,” says Joanna Griffiths, the brand’s CEO and founder, in a release. “We are conditioned as young girls to think that having a period leak while wearing white is the end of the world. Even with the progress that we have made as a society not to fear menstruation but to celebrate it, we are still seeing

100% Silk’s New Pieces Champion Global Craft Techniques
May 20, 2020 at 03:00PM “Folk textiles are a repository of local history, developed from a social need, and I like to keep that in mind when I’m developing a textile,” says Lee Dekel, designer of 100% Silk and proprietor of a Toronto multi-brand boutique by the same name. Describing her new collection as “sensual, easy and talismanic,” Dekel recalls the trips that played a part in its creation. “It came together over numerous visits to Ghana and Uzbekistan,” she says. “I do so much design work in the sampling process because the artisans have a very deep knowledge and they often introduce ideas to me that I would never have thought of. A lot of the magic also happens by accident. For instance, while hunting for cotton in a market in Accra, I stumbled upon a group of tie-dyers from Mali. I ended up enlisting them to make a shibori-dyed background fabric for the Saltpond print.” The cheerful motif features a charming mix of elements, including sea horses, coral and shells— all things that evoke warmer climes. Photography by Luna Khods. 100% Silk’s new designs aren’t the first time Dekel has worked with craftspeople internationally, but Spring 2020 presents the brand’s most abundant offering of garments to date. “All of the textile processes I work with are slow and exacting, so I had to make sure the artisans had the capacity to produce a full collection before introducing it to the world. It has taken about three years to

Self-Isolation Diary: A Day in the Life Of Mackage’s Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan
May 20, 2020 at 02:00PM We’re officially in Month 3 of self-isolation with an uncertain road ahead but for some much-needed inspiration, FASHION is reaching out to some of our favourite Canadians to get a peek into how they’re living their lives in lockdown (remember: #StayHomeSaveLives). Each week, keep an eye out for new self-isolation diaries from actors, designers, influencers and artists who are riding this uncertain time out with us. This week, we’re hearing from Eran Elfassy and Elisa Dahan, the co-creative directors of outerwear brand Mackage. The two are self-isolating in Montreal in their respective homes, faced with the challenges of running a brand while social distancing, but also relishing in the opportunities to re-focus their attentions and connect further with their staff, families and community. Here’s how they’re doing it. What are your respective living situations, and how are you balancing work and family? Elisa: I am living with my hubby and three boys – let’s just say there is never a dull or quiet moment in the house. They are making these eight weeks very entertaining. To be honest I am usually always on the go traveling so it has been a gift to be with them every night for dinner. I am hoping I will be able to maintain this in our new normal. Eran: I am at home with my eight month old daughter Skye and my beautiful wife. I have absolutely loved spending all of this time together, it’s been a blessing. I
No-bake almond butter chocolate oat bars
May 20, 2020 at 11:08AM Sharing this quick and healthy no-bake snack recipe: almond butter chocolate oat bars! They take less than 10 minutes to put together and make an awesome gluten-free snack. Holler to all of the moms out there cooking 18 meals per day and cleaning up each time. In the morning, I like to drink my collagen coffee and wake up for a bit while I make the girls’ breakfast. I finish cooking everything, make a little something for myself a bit later, clean up the damage, and then it’s, “Hey mom…” cook, clean, repeat the rest of the day. I feel like the kiddos grow so much over the summer and are constantly snacking and hungry! (All the fresh air and swimming will do it to ya.) I’m trying to keep the fridge and pantry as stocked as possible and also have healthy options that they can grab themselves. Different types of fruit, “baby cheese” (the little Babybel cheeses), energy balls, veggies with dip, bagels with cream cheese, yogurts, trail mix, cereal, and jerky have been some of their staples. And bars. SO MANY BARS. I’ll buy three boxes and within a couple of days – gone. I decided to try making bars just to have as backup and to switch up the usual rotation. I had some little helpers in the kitchen and they can attest to the fact that these bars are amazing. They’re not too sweet, slightly chewy, very chocolatey, and give a
