May 19, 2020 at 05:00AM The S/S 20 runways were rife with exciting trends for us to look forward to next year. (Colourful leather! Bermuda shorts! Waistcoats! And ’60s wallpaper prints, to name but a few.) But we particularly had our eyes on all things denim. The everyday staple had a huge presence on the runways—with every big designer from Givenchy to Gucci and Celine showcasing the much-loved fabric in a variety of refreshing ways, including cropped culottes, vintage washes and ’70s flares. (Yes, they’re back!) Scroll below as we share some of the biggest jean trends that we can expect to see all over our feeds, in our favourite retailers, and inevitably in our closets this year. Then, shop the looks before everyone else. There was a major emphasis on retro-looking denim on the S/S 20 runways. Jeans exuded an upcycled, lived-in vibe. If they look like they could have been pulled straight out of a vintage shop, then you’ve nailed the trend. Boot-cut jeans are back. Thanks to designers such as Celine, Marc Jacobs and Gucci, the leg-lengthening, flared denim silhouette is set to be huge next year. Opt for a high-waisted pair cinched at the waist with a narrow belt. Love them or hate them, there’s no denying ripped and distressed jeans will be in the limelight in 2020. Balance the casual, undone look with a sophisticated high-neck blouse or a polished blazer as seen at Givenchy. Whether they were Bermuda-style long shorts, culottes or cropped wide-leg styles, shorter hemlines were

Comrags is Revisiting Swimwear This Season
May 18, 2020 at 04:00PM Now in its 37th year of business, Comrags has reintroduced swimwear to its line for the first time since the ’80s—a smart move since customers had taken to wearing the brand’s Lycra pieces to the beach and poolside in past seasons. The new offering includes a one-piece tank-style bather that goes nearly to the knee (designed with paddle boarding in mind, according to co-designer Judy Cornish), a bathing dress and a T-shirt and briefs—all crafted from a two-way-stretch, quick-drying jersey produced in Italy. “We like the mill because they consider sustainability,” says Cornish. “We monitor every single stage of our productions’s cycle in order to reduce the use of water, energy, chemicals and waste.” A focus on conscious creation speaks to Comrags’ larger goal of crafting garments that will find a home in someone’s closet for many years to come. “It’s what [co-founder] Joyce [Gunhouse] and I have long believed; that clothing should last,” she notes. If your WFH style could also use a splash of excitement, the brand’s new watercolour prints will give a subtle lift to your look. Here are five picks from Comrags’ current collection to buy now and enjoy for a long time to come: <div class="sjm-attachment-carousel–header gallery-container–default" data-slick='{"speed":400,"adaptiveHeight":true,"variableWidth":false,"centerMode":true,"centerPadding":"0","slidesToShow":1,"lazyLoad":"ondemand","prevArrow":"Previous”,”nextArrow”:”Next”}’ data-simplemodal=’false’ > Photography by Riley Stewart. For First Nations Beauty Queen Ashley Callingbull, Tattoos Keep Her Family Extra Close
May 18, 2020 at 03:00PM Some people simply like how their tattoos look when they see themselves in the mirror. But Cree model, actor, activist and RW & Co. ambassador Ashley Callingbull has a deep connection to the symbols she has chosen to decorate her skin with: “Tattoos are a powerful way of sharing what you’ve been through and what you’ve overcome.” Born in Enoch Cree Nation in Alberta, Callingbull rocketed to fame after being crowned Mrs. Universe 2015 in Minsk, Belarus. Her air-punching victory marked the first time an Indigenous woman and a Canadian had ever won the title. Since then, the 30-year-old has used her platform to fight for Indigenous issues, including raising awareness about the inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls. When she was a child, her mother brought them to live with her then boyfriend on another Alberta reserve. There, Callingbull grew up in poverty and, unbeknownst to her mother at the time, endured six years of physical and sexual abuse at his hand. A victim herself, her mother finally built up the courage to pack up their belongings and escape to Callingbull’s grandparents’ house in Enoch. Who What Wear Spotlight: Our New Program Designed to Support Small Businesses
May 18, 2020 at 02:19PM Who What Wear Spotlight was born when our co-founder Katherine Power had the idea to use some of our ad inventory to support small fashion and beauty businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19. Starting from Monday 25th May, each week we will turn the spotlight on a company that will receive a complimentary week-long media package featuring the company, including an editorial story on WhoWhatWear.co.uk, social promotion and ads on the site leading to the content. With these efforts, we are extending a hand to the fashion-and-beauty community, using our ad inventory for good, and directing our audience of 2.3 million shoppers worldwide to the brands that need their support the most. Our audience still wants to shop and see the best new brands and cares more than ever about who they are choosing to support with their purchases, so this is a win-win for both the founders of these businesses and our community. Who What Wear wouldn’t be where we are without support from our industry, and we’re very excited to give something positive back with this initiative, especially to those who are underrepresented. If you’d like to apply for your company or know a small fashion or beauty business that would be perfect for this, our application form is open—here is where to apply for the UK site (and for American companies here is the application form for the US program). Our hope is to continue to evolve this program, using it as a dedicated franchise to support smaller businesses. Here is
