DIY Cold-Brew Iced Coffee
May 15, 2020 at 01:00PM Another cold brew coffee post? Really? To my credit this post was originally published in 2014 and was desperately in need of a picture refresh but also I’d like to consider myself an OG cold brew coffee drinker. First of all, I love coffee. Nothing new here. But my stomach doesn’t love coffee so much. Back when cold brew first came on the scene (I’m looking at you 2010-2012), my ears perked up when I heard that cold brew coffee is less acidic and can do wonders for anyone who is sensitive to the acidity of coffee. Hi! That’s me! C and I were living in NYC at the time and luckily were living in a place where cold brew was becoming increasingly popular…and expensive. Our weekly grocery budget for 2 people was $50 (seriously!) and one meal out so there wasn’t a whole lot of room for a $4-$5 cup of cold brew. I became determined to master cold brew. The only problem? All the tutorials online involved industrial sized containers and equipment a 21 year old broke post-grad definitely did not own. And so I took things into my own hands and that’s how I mastered the perfect […] The post DIY Cold-Brew Iced Coffee appeared first on The Healthy Maven. The Best At-Home Hair Dyes for When You Can’t Get to the Salon
May 15, 2020 at 04:30PM For those among us who dye their hair, I trust that you understand regular salon trips can be a bit costly. Besides the fact that colouring your hair is insanely expensive, it also takes up a lot of valuable time and requires some serious commitment. Take me, for example. With every salon trip, I get my balayage brought up so that my blonde streaks start roughly two to three inches from my roots. It has now been four months since my last colour appointment, and it’s fair to say my once-beachy balayage now resembles just-tipped dip-dye. The reason I leave it so long between salon treatments is because I deem going to the salon a bit of a nuisance. The truth is regular salon trips are often so inconvenient that regular colour touch-ups aren’t always doable, and that’s okay. So what exactly can be done to help grown-out lengths? Well, I truly never thought I’d say it, but box dyes have come a really long way. And while I do advise a permanent box dye should always be a last resort, more recently we’ve also seen a rise in products that help prolong the life of colour without relying on strand-damaging bleach. So if your roots are overdue some TLC and you’re seriously considering taking measures into your own hands, keep scrolling for the best at-home hair tints, colours, glosses and dyes to help tide you over. When it comes to at-home dyes, these Josh Wood colours are as good as they get. Not
Pilot Friday Faves
May 15, 2020 at 03:48PM Good morning, everybody! It’s the pilot. I’m here to give my beautiful bride a chance to catch her editorial breath while I offer up all the unsolicited pilot favorites you never knew you needed. I hope this provides a little bit of entertainment while we all work to get through these challenging times. I promise that the Fitnessista will be back shortly with actual meaningful content. For now – enjoy! Watch – Never Have I Ever: There might have been times in the past when I would watch a show with my wife just to spend time with her even if I’m not completely pulled into the plot or character development. This is certainly not one of them. The show’s writing is witty and multi-generational. I wonder how many younger people watch this and appreciate it from the perspective of the high schoolers while I often found myself identifying with the struggles of the parents (while still laughing at everyone’s dialogue). Full disclosure: I might have got a little misty-eyed during the end season finale. A particular flashback scene caught me way off guard and reminded me of time spent with my kiddos, and that was that. Anyway, good luck not doing the same. You’re gonna love it. – I really enjoy a good stand-up special, so I’m just going to list out a few of my recent favorites. Tell me who I need to add to this list: John Mulaney, Iliza Shlesinger, Nate Bargatze,

May 15, 2020 at 12:00PM Look at those two rays of sunshine! I am not sure if I have a touch of seasonal affective disorder, but my mood and energy are directly associated with the weather. We Love Kate and Meghan, But Royal Style Doesn’t Get Better Than Princess Anne’s
May 15, 2020 at 11:00AM What do Princess Diana‘s polka dots, the Queen‘s matching suit sets, Kate Middleton‘s coats and everything Meghan Markle wears have in common? They’re more prevalent as ever in 2020. However, there is one member of the royal family who deserves a closer look: Princess Anne. In the shadow of her mum, Queen Elizabeth II, you might not have noticed Princess Anne has been low-key defying our ideas of royal style for decades. From her big-hat obsession (who knew?) and endless stream of Pucci prints and matching accessories to her visor sunglasses and tweeds, Princess Anne has consistently thrown style curveballs over the years and needs be celebrated. Keep scrolling to see some of Princess Anne’s most iconic outfits, most of which are served with a perfect amount of style sass. Style Notes: Like her mum, Princess Anne loves to match—but with a twist. Layering a plain cape on top? Brilliant. Style Notes: Sorry, Pharrell and Boy George—Princess Anne was into OTT hats way before us all. I wish we could see the back just take note of the size of that bow. Style Notes: Calling all designers everywhere: Make this dress. Style Notes: If you look past the amazingly lime-green jungle hat and mad print dress, there’s a style trick we need to resurface. Can we please bring back matching our gloves and bags? Style Notes: This look is classic 1970s prep and we’re here for it. Reminds us to always add a silk scarf. This article was originally

May 15, 2020 at 11:00AM Simple and sweet for the weekend — these berry scones come from Dr. Hyman’s cookbook, Food: What the Heck Should I Cook? We’ve learned more about how to be both paleo and plant-based through Dr. Hyman and this is just the kind of recipe that proves it’s possible… Blackberries are one of my absolute favorite fruits—they’re a great source of vitamin C and contain many other antioxidants that are protective against inflammation, cancer, neurological diseases and more. Thanks to almond and millet flours, these scones are a nutrient-dense, lower-glycemic alternative to traditional scones that are made with refined flour and sugar, plus they provide healthy fats and protein to keep you satiated.
