From the Archives: Sophie Grégoire Trudeau on the March 2017 Cover of FASHION

April 24, 2020 at 05:15PM “If you were a yoga pose, which one would you be?” I ask Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. We’re midway into our second interview for this feature, and she has just finished describing the thrill of barefooting—which is waterskiing without skis. “You have to be at high speeds, and when you fall, it’s like falling on cement,” she says. “It’s rough, but the sensation is amazing when you’re on your feet.” She tells me that her other athletic pursuits venture from fairly calm (cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and tennis) to borderline extreme (skydiving, ice climbing and underwater diving with her husband, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau). Her less extreme adventures include yoga and pranayama (controlling the breath). So, back to the pose that best describes this certified hatha yoga instructor’s character. “That’s a funny question!” she says, laughing. “It’s tempting to say the wheel with one leg up [Eka Pada Chakrasana] because it’s just so heart opening, but I think the Baddha Konasana, or sitting pose, is the most challenging one for me because I have to be seated, calm, relaxed and focused.” I’m not sure whether asanas, or poses, reveal one’s character, but it’s not surprising to me that Grégoire Trudeau would excel at the one-legged wheel pose. I imagine there’s a certain extroverted rush from mastering that move, and I’m getting the sense that Grégoire Trudeau embraces her extroversion like metal shavings to a magnet. “I’m an only child,” she explains. “I was taught to go toward

6 Jewelry Trends Every Fashion Insider Will Wear in 2020

April 24, 2020 at 06:00AM Ready for a brand-new set of jewelry trends to work into your wardrobe? Same. The S/S 20 shows have come to a close, but I can’t stop thinking about the new jewelry pieces that were styled on the runways. Many of them are destined to be huge this year, and there are some major trends that will be bubbling up during 2020. From the new take on hoop earrings spotted at Proenza Schouler and Versace to the metal Brandon Maxwell and Gucci embraced that is set to be everywhere to the statement necklace trend we saw at Bottega Veneta and Chanel, these are the six biggest spring jewelry trends, period. Want to be an early adopter? Go on to see and shop our edit of pieces to start wearing right now. Hoops aren’t a new trend, but for spring they have been supersized. The new XXL proportions were paired with everything from power suiting to LBDs and are intended to go with just about anything. Statement-jewelry lovers, here’s another one for you. Chain-link necklaces were also spotted on the runways in pumped-up sizes, whether paired with open-front silhouettes or layered over crew-necks. We’ve been predicting the rise of silver jewelry, and the runways are providing even more evidence that the metal will be gaining traction in the coming months. Instead of matching earrings, designers sent models down the runways with just one. At Prabal Gurung and JW Anderson, we saw crystal styles that cascaded past the shoulder, and at Valentino, there were ornate gold versions. Pearls have been a popular trend for several

The $10 Accessories I’m Wearing for All My Virtual Hangouts

April 24, 2020 at 05:00AM From FaceTime to Zoom, WhatsApp to Skype, there’s no question I’ve spent more time on video calls in the past month than ever before, staying connected with my fellow colleagues, my family, and my friends as we navigate our way through the current pandemic climate. The one thing I’ve quickly realized about seeing myself enlarged on a video chat is that my lusterless looks could really do with a little livening up—especially from the chest up. So for the past few weeks, I’ve made a point of amping up my top-half with the power of some chic accessories that don’t cost a fortune. (My bottom half is still reserved for cozy and comfortable sweatpants, pajamas, and shorts—or lack thereof sometimes). There’s no question I feel more productive and confident when I bring my sartorial A-game to the table, so below, I’m sharing some of the cool and affordable accessories I’m wearing for all my virtual hangouts—all of which clock in around a very favorable $10. Headbands are one of the easiest (and affordable) ways to add a cute touch to your look. While I do own several black headbands, I find a bold color adds a much more cheerful impact. Finish the look with a swipe of red lipstick because nothing brightens up a complexion quite like it. My hair looks anything but coiffed these days. Mostly because my bangs are in that seriously awkward in-between length (too long to wear over my eyes, too

Our 25 Priority Buys and the Ones We’re Putting on the Backburner for Later

April 24, 2020 at 05:00AM When we imagined what we’d be wearing this spring (as one does in the dead of winter), sweatpants, hoodies, and slippers weren’t really it, but here we are. While right now, our clothing shopping priority is comfort, that’s not to say we aren’t still daydreaming about what we’re going to wear when it’s safe to go out again. Given the nature of our line of work, our editors keep ongoing shopping lists (even if it’s just in our heads), which we’re sharing here in case you’re seeking some inspiration. Below, get a glimpse at the things at the top of our wish lists (and shop them for yourself, if you’re so inclined) and those that we really want to wear down the road. We hope you find something that brings you as much joy as these 25 pieces will hopefully soon bring us. “A thrifty thrill is top of mind right now. I’m holding on any bigger spending and will be getting my fashion kicks with affordable items that I know I’ll wear a ton.” “I’ve been so inspired by all the DIY tie-dying I’ve seen on Instagram lately, especially since the print itself is so mood-lifting. However, since I don’t have a backyard to work with at the moment, I’m probably just going to give in and buy a few pieces for myself and spare my apartment the mess. On the flipside, despite seeing countless spring and summer dress I’d love to get my hands on, I’ll probably be

This Basic Mango Top Will Make Any Outfit Look Expensive

April 21, 2020 at 10:00AM There’s nothing that’s made me feel quite so old as TikTok. Perhaps it’s the energetic dances that require hours of practice or maybe it’s that I just don’t understand why anyone would want another social media platform to be a part of. Honestly, just leave me with my Instagram stories and an occasional tweet and I’m happy. While social media might be constantly delivering new platforms that make me confused, I’m not, however, confused by fashion. True, fashion thrives on “newness” but ultimately, trends always come back around again, which I find comfortingly reliable. Right now, the industry has a fixation on the ’90s minimalist trend and with that has come a new love for the sleeveless T-shirt, in particular from Mango. Mango‘s latest season has been particularly brilliant but it’s this shoulder padded vest top that comes in three different colourways—black, white and striped—that’s really made an impact. It’s easy to see why: not only does it elevate jeans, skirts and high-waisted trousers and make them appear more luxe, it’s also a winner for the warmer months. Plus, if you just throw on a blazer and a gold chain or pair of earrings you’re ready for all those important work Zoom meetings. Keep scrolling to see how to style it then shop the top, plus some of our other favourites from Mango right now.  Next up, the biggest spring/summer 2020 fashion trends you need to know  Continue Reading… Author Elinor Block | Whowhatwear Selected by CWC
