The Best Natural Sunscreen [For Your Body]

May 26, 2020 at 03:00AM I think it’s safe to say that so many of us have down the whole lay-out-in-the-sun-until-you-look-like-snooki game but I’m hoping as we all get older and wiser, we are more aware of skin damage and skin cancer and want to protect ourselves! Bring on the SPF.  As you know, I am an advocate for natural skincare, makeup and deodorant so of course, I use natural sunscreen as well! I set out to test a bunch of natural sunscreens on the market and bring you a round-up of the best of the best, depending on what you’re looking for.  Why use natural sunscreen? First I think we should discuss why you need to be wearing sunscreen in the first place. Here’s a big wakeup call:  Repeated exposure to the sun’s UVA and UVB rays is directly correlated to up to 90% of skin cancers. In addition to increasing cancer risk, UV rays contribute to premature skin aging and sun damage.  So unless dry, wrinkled, discolored, and leathery skin is your thing (anyone?!), I’d suggest loading up on the SPF. If you’re using conventional sunscreen, that’s still a huge step! I would rather have you use some sort of sunscreen than none. May 25, 2020 at 10:00AM This post was specifically requested by someone in my life. I won’t tell you who…JK it was obviously Mama Maven… but I’m sure many of you can relate! Most of us are spending 24/7 at home and that means cooking allll the meals. If you’re the primary chef in you’re home, you’re likely feeling a tad burnt out by now and ready for your partner to step up and cook! Now in full transparency, Mama Maven’s suggestion for this post had a slightly more controversial title that I doubt my Dad would have enjoyed so instead we’re sticking to a more general subject line and sharing easy recipes for your partner who doesn’t cook. If your partner isn’t comfortable in the kitchen that is a big ask though! And can feel more stressful to have them in there than if you just made dinner yourself. Trust me, I get it. Honey Mustard Grilled Salmon

May 24, 2020 at 02:00PM This simple Honey Mustard Grilled Salmon is made with just 6-ingredients but packs a ton of flavor. The perfect recipe for summer barbecues or a quick and easy weeknight meal on the grill. I admit without any kind of resistance to being a mustard addict. I also feel pretty passionately about mustard being the ultimate condiment, but I suspect that’s what you’d expect from a mustard addict…no shame in my game. If you were to open my fridge right now, the first thing that would jump out at you is the exceptional amount of mustard. Dijon, stoneground, sweet and spicy,  honey mustard… I truly believe you can’t have enough mustard.  Now that the weather is warming up, I’m obviously coming up with all of the grilled recipes that also use mustard. I came up with this simple grilled salmon recipe and it’s a new staple in our household!  Why salmon? Salmon is basically a superfood. It is one of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids which are essential aka your body can’t create them so we have to get them through our diet. It’s also a great source of protein and a variety of vitamins and minerals. It has […] The post Honey Mustard Grilled Salmon appeared first on The Healthy Maven. Made with crunchy napa cabbage, crispy ramen noodles and a delicious asian dressing this salad will become a weeknight staple and family favorite. I’m not gonna lie, one of the things I was most excited for when we moved was how close we would be to a restaurant that serves one of our favorite Chinese Chicken Salad recipe. I’m not gonna say that was the reason we moved to this neighborhood, but I’m also not gonna say it wasn’t…This salad is so delicious and so coveted they literally have a separate section of their restaurant with a special fridge to store the salads. If you don’t get there early the chinese chicken salad will sell out! Now, we’re continuing to support our local restaurants by ordering takeout but we also eat this chinese chicken salad so much that I wanted to experiment to see if I could master it at home. I have to say, I think I came pretty darn close. If you subscribe to my weekly meal plan, don’t be surprised to see this on the list next week – it’s quickly become […] The post Chinese Chicken Salad Recipe appeared first on The Healthy Maven. Creamy Cold Brew Ice Pops

May 21, 2020 at 10:00AM Get your afternoon pick-me-up with these creamy cold brew ice pops! They’re vegan and gluten-free but still packed with flavor and a light caffeine punch. Plus all you need is 3 ingredients for the ultimate coffee treat. Have any of you guys tried Trader Joe’s Cold Brew Popsicles?! OMG SO GOOD. I think they’re technically called Cold Brew Latte Dessert Bars but let’s be real…they’re popsicles. Although apparently the name “popsicle” is trademarked so I have to call these creamy cold brew “popsicles” ice pops, but you get the idea! For obvious reasons it’s a tad difficult to get to Trader Joe’s these days (I so wish they delivered!) so I went on a mission to create my own version of their cold brew latte pops at home. Theirs are technically a blend of cold brew coffee, cream and sugar but there’s no reason they can’t taste equally as delicious with healthier swaps. Plus we never have milk in the house so I was working with what I had. Fortunately we’ve been making cold brew non-stop lately so we have a ton of it on hand. Funny story…I’m not currently drinking coffee (it makes me break out!) but I still […] The post Creamy Cold Brew Ice Pops appeared first on The Healthy Maven. Build-A-Bowl Recipes

May 19, 2020 at 10:00AM Anyone remember build-a-bear? Pretty sure that and Limited Too basically sum up being a child of the 90s. You know what sums up my adulthood? Bowls. All.The.Bowls. Aka the lazy girl’s dinner and really, the only true way to eat dinner. I’m sure 20 years from now I’ll look back on my 20s and 30s and laugh at how many recipes I made in bowls, but hey, it works! Now I have to be honest with you, there’s no exact science to bowl recipes. That’s the best part of them, there’s room to experiment. I’m not gonna lie, on occasion I’ve created some really random bowl recipes (you know when you’re so low on food you just find anything in your fridge and see what happens?!) but most of the time a quick mix of protein, carbs and veggies topped with a good dressing and some crunch ends up being delicious. So for those of you who are feeling a little lost in the kitchen these days, I hope this bowl recipes post will help inspire you to get a little create. As a reminder, this is just a guide. How to Save Money While Shopping Online

May 18, 2020 at 07:00AM Who doesn’t love saving money while shopping?! I’ve already shared my thoughts on how to stop buying stuff which still stand but what about when your shopping passes all of that criteria? How can we get the best deals possible? Honestly, I’ve always been a deal finding pro. I almost never purchase things full price (most things go on sale at some point!) and reeeeallyyyy hate to pay for shipping. So it’s about time I shared my tricks with you, right? Watch Store Trends A lot of stores cycle through similar sales cycles. Make a mental note to be aware of when sales are happening! Some stores have sales every single week where others (like my beloved Credo Beauty!) have just one larger sale a year. While you have to be careful not to overload your inbox, I do recommend signing up for newsletters for your favorite brands so you know when deals are happening. Money Saving or Cash Back Apps You’ve all seen the commercials for them and yes! They actually do work! The two most well known (and ones I personally use) are Rakuten and Honey. Honey is an extension you can add to your browser that magically […] The post How to Save Money While Shopping Online appeared first on The Healthy Maven. Green Goddess Dressing Recipe

May 17, 2020 at 10:00AM The ultimate zesty and refreshing sauce, this green goddess dressing recipe will become a quick favorite to top onto salads, bowls or even used as a dip! Easily customizable and made with just a few simple ingredients. It dawned on me the other day as I was whipping up yet another bowl recipe that I’ve never shared my classic green goddess dressing recipe. This sauce is pretty much second nature to me. I just throw everything in the blender and hope for the best. Without fail this green goddess dressing always seems to work out. It struck me that sometimes I go 10 steps ahead when it comes to cooking instead of sharing the classics. I’ve shared plenty of bowl recipes (and many more to come!) but sometimes what you really need is a delicious dressing recipe to top onto whatever you have – recipe or not! What I love most about this recipe is how customizable it is. I oftentimes make it when I notice some of my herbs on their way out. I toss them in the blender with the rest of the ingredients and BAM it gives them new life! It’s also super versatile and can be […] The post Green Goddess Dressing Recipe appeared first on The Healthy Maven. Continue Reading… Author Davida Lederle | Thehealthymaven Selected by CWC
