June 20, 2020 at 07:00AM When Emma Watson and Meghan Markle wore a pair of trainers by the conscious French brand Veja, it quickly became one of the most talked-about sneaker brands in the UK. The classic white basket sneaks (made from recycled plastic bottles and wild rubber) feature the distinctive V logo in varying colours on each side. Emma Watson first wore the trainers back in October 2016, but it wasn’t until 2018 when Meghan wore them that the seemingly simple lace-ups started gaining such widespread popularity. Much like other classic trainers (think Converse and Vans), these have rapidly become a staple for when you need a comfortable yet stylish pair of shoes. Plus, these sneakers are so minimalist in design that they work with every type of ensemble—from midi dresses to straight-leg jeans. The Veja V-10 leather trainers arrived on Net-a-Porter in early 2017 and became the second and third best-selling pieces globally (only beaten out by a Gucci T-shirt) the same week they launched. Now I spot these trainers constantly on Instagram, as they seem to have become the most popular sneakers to own. And if that’s not enough to make you want a pair, then you might change your mind after scrolling our edit of the best Veja trainers. Plus, there’s even a guide to how fashion girls are wearing theirs for outfit inspiration. Style Notes: Alongside dresses and trousers, Vejas make for the perfect pairing with a midi skirt, as seen on Eunice Abe. Style Notes: A simple outfit

These Are the 18 Affordable Anti-Ageing Skincare Products That Actually Work
June 20, 2020 at 06:30AM If I had to highlight only one term that has the power to make a beauty editor shudder unlike any other, it would have to be “anti-ageing”. Because the truth is (and brace yourselves for this one), no beauty product truly has the power to totally reverse the signs of ageing. No serum, cream, oil or mask that money can buy can actually eradicate wrinkles. With that being said, there are a very small number of ingredients that can definitely help minimise signs of ageing (and even more so when they’re used alongside youth-preserving massage techniques). But when I say very small, I mean it. In fact, there is only a handful of ingredients that have been scientifically-proven to reduce the appearance of age-related skin issues. From wrinkle-reducing retinol to skin brightening vitamin C, it’s hard to comprehend why beauty companies expect us to pay premium prices for ingredients that actually work, right? If you ask me, great skincare shouldn’t have to come with an eye-watering price tag. Unfortunately, when it comes to anti-ageing products, more affordable brands often get written off as ineffective because of their overuse of the phrase “anti-ageing” in their ads. And sure, while so many affordable products that claim to rewind the clock do little more than give your skin a hefty hit of moisture, there are many that do actually contain the rare ingredients older skin might genuinely benefit from. So to save you from having to try out every single budget anti-ageing product out there,
This Is the Skincare Ingredient to Know About If You Have Pigmentation
June 20, 2020 at 06:30AM Very rarely in the world of beauty does a new, game-changing ingredient come along. Sure, there are new technologies and patents being developed every single day, but as far as seriously efficacious, ingredient-led discoveries go, they’re few and far between. Before the likes of super-hydrating hyaluronic acid, glow-boosting alpha hydroxy acids and fine line–reducing retinol were discovered, I wonder what was worth writing about. However, it’s been a good few years now since any ingredient made waves in the skincare world, and I think we’re overdue a discovery. With that being said, over the past few months or so, one particular ingredient name has been popping up more frequently on ingredient lists and in conversations among experts. Tranexamic acid is heralded by experts and editors alike for its remarkable skin-brightening effects. But what exactly is it, how is it used, and does it really have the potential to be the next big thing in skincare? Keep scrolling for everything you need to know. Prepare for some sciency jargon ahead. Also known as TXA, tranexamic acid is actually a bio-engineered amino acid. It has been used in medicine for many years to help reduce blood loss in patients during surgery. However, in terms of beauty, it has also been discovered that tranexamic acid is a tyrosinase inhibitor. (Tyrosinase is a key enzyme responsible for melanin/pigment production in our skin.) “As is the case for so many hero ingredients, it was noticed that patients who were prescribed tranexamic acid as
If Your Hair Is Prone to Knotting, These Detangling Products Are Sure to Help
June 20, 2020 at 06:30AM If your hair is anything like mine, the chances are it is well overdue a cut. I have always had long hair (with the exception of a blip at age 13 when I wanted to look like Victoria Beckham and went for an inverted bob), and as far as my super-long hair goes, it’s always been relatively easy to manage. While my curly haired friends complained of frequent tangling and dryness, my fine, limp lengths had their faults, but tangling wasn’t really one of them. But then, around five years ago, years of bleach damage caught up with me, and my usually smooth hair started matting and knotting in ways I did not know possible. Suddenly, I was having to carry around hairbrushes in my handbag and adding leave-in conditioners and nourishing hair masks into my routine. And after many conversations with different hairdressers, I have finally come to accept that knotting and matting are just part of life, especially if the hair is wavy, curly, coarse or dry. But knowing this doesn’t make it any easier to deal with. And frankly, forgoing my routine cuts over the last few months has left my hair more prone to knotting and tangling than ever before. To help make things a bit easier for those who are also experiencing such knotty dismay, I have rounded up the best (and gentlest) conditioning and detangling products out there for instant relief. From lightweight sprays to heavy-duty curl gelées, there’s a detangler out there for everyone. Just
3 Summer Prints That Will Never Go Out of Style
June 20, 2020 at 06:05AM When it comes to making a new purchase, I always try to think about its potential for longevity. Will this item stand the test of time? Will I still like and want to wear it in a year? Two years? Five years? In my time, there are many items I’ve added to cart that have subsequently failed that test and simply become ghosts of checkouts past. However, over the years, I’ve learned that there are three summer patterns that will never fail the timeless test, as summer after summer, I find myself gravitating toward polka dots, stripes and gingham. From T-shirts to swimwear, summer dresses to shorts, these three patterns are so classic they can adorn any one of your favourite wardrobe items and give the piece an instantly classic feel. I’ve personally had the same (quality) striped tee in my closet for almost a decade and wear it as a part of my usual rotation still today. Same goes with a gingham skirt I bought on sale, which has easily become the key item in my closet with the lowest price per wear. If you’re looking for a few investment pieces that will make a statement, you can’t go wrong with gingham, stripes and polka dots for summer. Keep scrolling to see and shop the patterns below. This Is How Instagram’s Coolest Minimalist Is Dressing in 2020
June 20, 2020 at 06:00AM If you looked at any fashion magazine between the years of 2000 and 2010, chances are their summer issues would be densely populated with all things boho—low-slung belts, peasant skirts, gladiator sandals and waistcoats. While “peak boho” only lasted a short time, its tassel-trimmed ripple effect was felt for many years after. (We blame you, Sienna Miller.) For a large proportion of my teenage years, I assumed the only way to ace summer style was to waft around in striped kaftans, dripping in impractical jewellery and shaded by vast sun hats. But no more: Enter minimalism 2.0. If the early noughties were a time of style escapism, then I think it’s reasonable to describe the last decade as a gradual move towards aesthetic austerity. Fashion has embraced all things stripped-back, and this summer, we have peaked with a line-up of trends that can justifiably be described as basics. Think tank tops, tailored shorts, linen shirts and clean-lined Birkenstocks. Over the last few years, a whole host of influencers has cropped up to meet this minimalist demand, ranking in high numbers of followers with their low-key outfits. Sylvie Mus is undoubtedly one of the names that have led the charge. Originally from Rwanda and currently based between Helsinki and Paris, Sylvie is a freelance stylist and creative consultant who we have long followed for her distinctive approach to minimalist fashion. Her Instagram feed is a calming tableaux of neutral colourways, wearable separates and touchy-feely textures: wool, leather, denim, linen. The fact that her outfit shots from three years ago could easily be mistaken for 2020 ensembles is
23 Beauty Products I Turn to Whenever I’m Feeling Out of Sorts
June 19, 2020 at 08:56PM Some beauty products fill me with total, unadulterated joy. In fact, whenever I need a little boost in spirits, beauty is the first thing I turn to. And it sounds shallow, I know, but it really does work for me. When I start the day on a downer, there are very few things that can actually improve my mood. I mean, a slice of freshly-baked Victoria sponge and a cup of tea can only keep me content for so long. And I’m not one of those people that can power through a situation regardless of their mood, either. If I’m sad, anxious, grumpy or just plain angry, it’s an all-encompassing sort of situation. I have found that over the years, the way that I’m feeling has a lot to do with how I’m treating myself. With a solid beauty routine being one of the easiest ways to show yourself some love, I’ve spent a lot of time honing quick, no-fuss beauty rituals that guarantee to get me out of a funk. It sounds extra, I know, but for me, it honestly works. For instance, I know that when I’m struggling to sleep, reaching for my This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Spray and a Spacemask will have me out like a light. If I’m feeling anxious, I know my go-to Aromatherapy Associates Revive Bath Oil and Omorovicza Gold Sugar Body Scrub will calm my mind, at least for a few minutes. But while sleep-inducing and anti-anxiety beauty products are by far two of the most well-known
Charlotte Tilbury Actually Heard Us—Magic Cream Light Is Finally Here
June 19, 2020 at 06:30AM Before we get into this, if you haven’t been following the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream (£75) journey over the years, let me summarise it for you very quickly. For many years, Charlotte Tilbury’s iconic Magic Cream has been heralded by many as one of the most plumping, glow-giving priming moisturisers of all time. The majority of people love it (including lots of Charlotte’s celebrity clients) and swear by it for a healthy-looking glow. However, it’s rich. So wonderful and rich, in fact, that those with super-oily skin, like mine, really can’t touch it without risking a grease-induced breakout. And for years, the oily skinned felt wronged by this lack of acknowledgement. We too wanted to reap the glowy, plumping benefits of Magic Cream, just without the grease. So when the brand launched Charlotte’s Magic Serum Crystal Elixir back in April, I thought we finally had what we had been asking for. It gives lightweight, skin-perfecting hydration and glow and delivers a whole bunch of skin-loving ingredients while it works. Sure, I totally understood at the time that the instant glow-boosting effects weren’t quite up to par with the original Magic Cream, but it was certainly a step in the right direction. Suki Waterhouse has been known to opt for Magic Cream as a pre–red carpet skin boost. However, a few weeks ago, a Charlotte Tilbury parcel turned up at my door. I had a pencil in my diary for a Zoom webinar to celebrate a new launch from the brand the week
This Is the Summer Dress I Always Come Back to
June 19, 2020 at 06:24AM Love dresses? Then you’ve come to the right place. We’re always here for you to document the biggest dress trends and since last summer we noticed that the favourites tended to be of the polka dot variety. Then for this year’s spring/summer collections, polka dots were even bigger news and were featured in an array of different styles—whether oversized or backed by bold colours, summer 2020 is when the polka dot really takes centre stage. The best thing about this trend? It’s a style that’s not going to date, and if you play your cards right (i.e., pick a dress that makes you feel good and fits you well), you’ll be wearing this hero piece for many years to come. At the top of my list is the Mother of Pearl collaboration with John Lewis & Partners (spotted on Zeena Shah, above) and Kitri’s ’70s-inspired belted number, which is sure to suit every body type and will bring a smile to your face (it’s literally the perfect shade of pink). Also, Ganni’s fabulous statement collar mini needs a mention, but be quick as it’s in the sale and about to sell out. Scroll down to see that and shop our full edit of polka-dot dresses. Who What Wear’s Hannah wearing a flamenco-style gown from De La Vali. Style Notes: A black polka-dot midi is now a firm favourite in the fashion girl’s wardrobe. Just add chunky sandals for comfy WFH style. Next up, the biggest spring/summer 2020 fashion trends to know.
