June 18, 2020 at 06:24AM Love dresses? Then you’ve come to the right place. It seems there’s a new contender for best summer frock, and it’s not of the floral variety. According to Instagram—and the majority of team Who What Wear right now—the print set to knock flowery dresses off the top spot is polka dot. Whether they’re in black and white or more adventurous colours (see Kitri’s pink-and-white version below), it’s fair to say that we can’t stop thinking about them. The best thing about this trend? It’s a style that’s not going to date, and if you play your cards right (i.e., pick a dress that makes you feel good and fits you well), you’ll be wearing this hero piece for many years to come. Last year it was all about Zara’s spotted smock, a trending style that has well and truly set the polka dot tone for 2020. Brands have continued the long, languorous and loose theme, but this year they come with an accompanying puffed sleeve. At the top of my list is Kitri’s ’70s-inspired belted number, which is sure to suit every body type and will bring a smile to your face (it’s literally the perfect shade of pink). Also, Ganni’s fabulous statement collar mini needs a mention—give it a few weeks and it’s sure to be all over Instagram. Scroll down to see and shop our full edit of polka-dot dresses. I Think This Bikini Trend Looks Good on Everyone
June 18, 2020 at 06:00AM I always want bikini shopping to be as quick and easy as possible, and over the years, I have realised there is one trend that I just can’t fault when it comes to fit. Thanks to Hunza G, seersucker bikinis and one-pieces have been one of the most popular swimsuit trends for the past few years. The brand was originally launched in 1984 and created the iconic minidress Julia Roberts wore in Pretty Woman. Thirty years later, the brand switched gears to create one-size scrunch-fabric swimsuits in a rainbow of colours. Hunza’s suits have become go-tos among the A-list. When Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wore one of the suits in Italy last year, the site crashed due to the surge in demand. Unsurprisingly, this trend for scrunch-fabric swimwear has hit the high street. ASOS creates separates that you can mix and match, with great options for fuller busts. Another brand that has really caught my attention this year is Youswim, which produces the swimwear in London and aims to “turn the tide on standard, inflexible sizing by creating swimwear that represents women realistically, accepting our bodies as they are.” All of Youswim’s suits come in one size and will fit UK sizes 6 to 18. 17 High-Street Staples That Will Look Good Season After Season
June 18, 2020 at 06:00AM More than ever, fashion staples have become an important part of our summer capsule wardrobes. When parties are put on pause and holidays postponed to next year, suddenly it’s our basic white tees, comfy jeans and hard-working knits that come to the fore. Nasty Gal clearly knows what the people want because it’s just dropped its Daily Icons collection, which is essentially a roundup of versatile pieces that you’ll want to wear through summer and right into the winter months. All our favourite style heroes are here: neutral blazers, denim jumpsuits, midi dresses, knit co-ords and basic tees—oh, and the odd feel-good statement piece for good measure. Essentially, they’re all items that can be dressed up and down, styled with sandals for summer and layered up for winter. What more could you want? At the top of our wish list is the Business as Usual blazer, which will look so good with tailored shorts and a tank top now, then with jeans and boots come autumn. We also have our eye on the Slit’s Now or Never high-waisted jeans with their flattering bootcut fit and retro-style fade—just add a white shirt and chunky chain necklace. There’s so much goodness and so little time. Scroll down to see our full edit of Nasty Gal’s failsafe staples. Author Who What Wear | Whowhatwear Selected by CWC
5 Hairstyles to Wear If You Haven’t Seen Your Hairdresser in Months
June 18, 2020 at 06:00AM Shout-out to everyone who sees their hairdresser more often than their best mates, as I know that it’s been tough going these past few months. While I don’t want to downplay how important it has been to stay at home, there’s no denying that our grooming options have been a little lacklustre. Home waxes, manis and pedis are actually pretty good with a bit of practice, but the facts are you can’t give yourself a proper haircut. And no, watching a YouTube video doesn’t count. But that’s not to say fashion girls aren’t looking as chic as they used to—nothing is cooler than natural, understated hairstyles, and we’re even seeing a revival of the ultimate bad-hair-day best friend: the plait. There are definitely some standout 2020 fashion-girl hair trends that we spied during last season’s Copenhagen Fashion Week, which we’re now co-opting for our bad hair days. The best thing about them? They’re all super easy to copy and incorporate into your everyday looks. Keep scrolling to see more. The less effort the better when it comes to this style. Simply pull back at the base of your neck in a chic pony or a messy bun and you’re off. From scrunchies to scarves, dressing up your low-key style is all the rage. Headbands and hair clips aren’t going anywhere, either. Okay, so this one is a little harder if you’ve got a grown-out bob, but think of it as inspiration for your next hairdresser visit. We love au naturel waves with
6 Influencers Who Inspire Me to Wear More Colour
June 18, 2020 at 05:03AM Despite what my Instagram feed may have you believe, I don’t tend to wear much vibrant colour in my day-to-day life. Particularly now that I’m home more often, my wardrobe predominantly consists of plain white tees, denim, and a vast array of black or grey activewear. Recently, I’ve been throwing on a few summer dresses for good measure, but even with those, I often gravitate toward muted neutral tones or subtler shades. However, with summer on its way I’m finding myself drawn to brighter colours, and thanks to a saved folder filled with vibrant looks that I’ve accumulated on Instagram, it’s never been easier to find inspiration. From Zeena Shah’s cheery aesthetic to Nina Sandbech’s affinity for rainbow brights and Nnenna Echem’s colour-clashing creations, my follow list has become a who’s who of influencers who excel in creating looks that feature a kaleidoscope of colours. From orange to green, purple, pink and blue, there is not a single shade these women shy away from, mixing and matching vibrant hues with ease. If, like me, you’re looking to add some extra colour to your closet this season, I highly recommend scrolling through the feeds of the six women below for some inspiration first. Everything You Need to Know About Shaping Your Brows at Home
June 17, 2020 at 06:26PM The number one beauty lesson that almost everyone is guaranteed to have learned the hard way? Never attempt to reshape your own brows. If you want to cut the risk of getting pluck-happy, it’s imperative that you resist the urge to reach for the tweezers and instead simply call the salon and book in for a shape-and-tidy. But things have changed. Something as simple as booking in for a brow appointment is now no longer an option. And as our brows start sprouting new stragglers left, right and centre after four weeks without even a hint of grooming, we’re calling time on this laissez-faire approach to brow maintenance. So while we are by no means encouraging anyone to start ordering hot wax and set up a DIY brow bar, we think we could all benefit from some pointers on how to avoid disaster while tending to our brows. To aid in keeping the situation under control until we can get back out into the world again, we have enlisted the help of Laurretta Power, senior brow expert and makeup artist at Benefit Cosmetics UK. Keep scrolling to discover her top tips. First and foremost, it’s imperative to remember that it’s best to leave the fiddly tools and methods to the professionals. “At home, I suggest tweezing over any other technique, owing to the fact there is much less room for error,” advises Power. “With waxing or threading, you’re removing large areas of hair, making it far easier to make big
I Just Tried the New VB Beauty Moisturiser, and I Think I’m in Love
June 17, 2020 at 04:20PM If you know me, you know that my love for Victoria Beckham Beauty knows no bounds. And, trust me, that is something I’m really ashamed to admit because everything is so insanely expensive. Sure, I’m more than happy to give a £100+ product a glowing review for its results, but for me personally (who absolutely does not have a spare £100 to spend on skincare) the price of a product is a total deal breaker, because no beauty product is worth any sort of financial stress. So please do keep the above disclaimer in mind as I work my way through my feelings about the new Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturizer in Golden. You see, when Victoria Beckham Beauty launched last year, I fell head over heels for the makeup products. The buttery eye shadow palettes (which by the way look and feel like absolute works of art) were love at first sight and the silky liners are now permanents in my collection. And the truth is, I can face spending £48 on a luxury eye shadow palette. It might pain me a little bit, but I am a beauty editor, which means my spending habits do naturally tend to lean towards beauty products. However, only shortly after my love affair with VB Beauty makeup began, a new skincare product came on the scene. Formulated in collaboration skincare maestro Professor Augustinus Bader, the Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturizer contains Bader’s patented TFC8® technology that is responsible for giving his own brand’s
How to Create the Perfect Table Setting, According to the Experts
June 17, 2020 at 03:23PM Anna de Lanoy Meijer and Nina Poot know a thing or two about chic home interiors. After all, they are the founders of Anna + Nina, a jewellery, clothing and homewares label, where one-third of their brand is dedicated to creating intricate additions for your home interior. Earlier this Spring, the co-founders took to Who What Wear UK’s Instagram to reveal their tips on how to create the ultimate table setting, and their advice was so good we couldn’t just let it disappear in 24 hours when the Live Story did. From their more-is-more aesthetic to their tips on clashing prints, below, the founders outline the ways in which they like to set their tables in order to bring that true restaurant feel to their homes. After all, as they noted on Instagram, “These days, we can not go out to a restaurant. So let’s let the restaurant come to us!” So whether you’re in the market for a few new placemats, some talking-point cutlery, a centerpiece candle holder or simply want to know how to bring all these items together, keep scrolling for four tips on how to create the perfect table setting. “To us, there are no rules. Your dinner should be a party, and your table should look like one. Mix and match. Find a print, a table cloth or a napkin that you love, and work around it. Zara’s Summer Sale Is Here—These Are the Pieces You’ll Wear for Years
June 17, 2020 at 08:10AM It’s here, people. The Zara summer sale has arrived, and boy, do they have some incredible pieces available. However, before you dive head-first into the virtual shop, we thought it would be prudent to give you a few sales tips. Firstly, have a look through your wardrobe and have a think about what you need and what works with your current pieces. Then, when browsing on the site, add pieces you love, by all means, but before you check out, it’s worth thinking about how much wear you’ll get out of them. A good rule is to know if you’ll wear it 30 times or more, which is a great way to ensure you’re shopping as mindfully and sustainably as you can. And if you want more pointers, we have an insider who gave us some valuable tips on how to shop the Zara sale in the UK so expertly that you’ll be guaranteed to get there first (and find the pieces you’ve been eyeing up all season). Our intel is that you should go for the things that’ll be the most popular first. So opt for the higher-priced goods that will sell out quickly (e.g., cashmere, handbags, shoes and coats). “Other pieces like shirts are likely to still be around for the second markdown,” recommends our insider. Also remember to research trends before buying for the upcoming season so you can see what will last. “Customers will always ask, ‘Will you be getting more stuff like this?’
This High-Street Brand Just Created My Dream Summer 2020 Wardrobe
June 17, 2020 at 08:00AM High-street label Kitri has a habit of knowing the clothes we want to wear, and its new collection is pretty much my dream summer wardrobe. When a preview email landed in my inbox, I instantly imagined myself in every outfit. The daisy-print minidresses, pink short-sleeved shirts and throw-on gingham midis are perfect for a summer of socially distant picnics and hot-weather walks. It’s no accident that these pieces appeal to my current lifestyle. The Kitri team reimagined the summer collection to be a capsule for staycation activities. “Rather than building a holiday capsule wardrobe, our focus is on feeling comfortable at home, while also evoking summer and making ourselves feel special during a trying time,” the brand said. Kitri’s business model for the collection is just as clever as the designs, as it has launched with a made-to-order system in order to reduce clothing waste and eliminate the risk of overproducing and being left with deadstock. Customers are able to preorder items, which gives the team insight into the demand and how many to produce, and they can then reduce potential waste from overordering. Kitri explains: “Ultimately, we want to take the lead from our customers, and produce styles that they want to buy, rather than anticipating demand ourselves which can often result in excess stock. Excess stock = potential waste, something that we are passionate about reducing as a responsible fashion retailer.” All preordered styles will be honoured and produced, and you still have the option to return
