June 09, 2020 at 09:11PM If there is one thing that I have learned about myself during this period of social distancing, it’s that I really don’t take enough care of myself. As a beauty editor, this can be a hard thing to admit. You see, I do actually dedicate an hour every evening to a rather luxurious bathing session, and my twice-daily skincare routine is quite lengthy and excessive, but when it comes to just about anything else, I’m useless. Sadly, unless I have an appointment booked to remind me, everything from my brows to my nails gets totally neglected. One area in particular that I have found myself turning a blind eye to recently is my feet. Sure, I give them a good slathering of foot cream after my nightly bath and keep my nails in check as best as I can, but am I really giving them the time and love they need? Absolutely not. Usually, at this stage, I’d book myself in for a thorough pedicure. However, with salons closed, I have had to take matters into my own hands. In a bid to get my tootsies ready for summer, I reached out to my all-round nail guru (and celebrity nail artist) Jenni Draper to take me through, step by step, how to carry out the perfect at-home pedicure. This is the part of a DIY pedi that I am always keen to forgo due to its fuss and length. The truth is, though, prepping the skin on your feet is crucial

I’d Never Have Guessed These £38 Sandals Were From Topshop
June 09, 2020 at 11:41AM In an era of working from home and saying in more than going out, it’s fair to say that footwear has been simplified. High-heels have been replaced with slippers, boots have been replaced with sneakers and comfort has well and truly become the key. In this sense, summer’s most popular footwear will need to adhere to a few specific categories, with comfort, ease and versatility becoming vastly important factors. With this in mind, let us introduce you to Topshop’s recent arrival. The brand’s leather twist scandals excel in all the categories above, yet also happen to be stylish and affordable, rivalling the aesthetic of a designer pair (a combination we love but don’t find very often). The pair has also won over our Shopping Editor, Joy Montgomery, who offered this somewhat glowing commentary on the shoes. “When the extent of my shoe usage while working from home consists of mooching around the living room and popping out for the occasional walk, it’s fair to say around 90% of my shoedrobe is not fit for purpose. The result? I have ended up living in slip on sandals, and alongside my Birkenstocks, this Topshop pair has been my saving grace. Comfy (the material is super soft), cool and bringing a mood-boosting pop to colour to my loungewear, they tick all the boxes. I wear with everything from summer mini dresses and knitted co-ords to jeans and floaty skirts. A serious all-rounder.” Convinced? See how Joy styles the shoes and
It’s So Predictable, But I Love Loungewear in This Colour
June 09, 2020 at 07:00AM I have a lot of grey loungewear pieces on rotation, and right now that’s very much needed. Yes, it’s highly predictable, but I love grey loungewear. I’ve got a theory about why it’s such a beloved colour for comfy clothing: It’s a soft hue, so it seems more relaxing, but it’s more sophisticated than a pastel pink, blue or yellow. Seeing as we’re not exactly going anywhere anytime soon and will still be spending a decent amount of time at home, it’s the perfect balance between comfy and smart. It stops you from looking like you haven’t cared about what you’ve put on for the day, but if you “accidentally” fall asleep in it watching Netflix, it’s not a problem. Below, I’ve created an edit of the coolest pieces of loungewear in grey. While you can definitely wear some of these pieces as co-ords à la Alexis Foreman, I’m also a fan of mixing up the different shades. Keep scrolling for the full edit. 11 ‘90s Films I Always Get Outfit Ideas from
June 09, 2020 at 07:00AM There’s no denying that the ’90s was a real golden age for movies. I can only talk for myself but as a teenager during that time, there were quite a few films that had an impact on me. Of course, a lot to do with that is whether Leonardo di Caprio was starring but there was also another reason why I still love these films today: the fashion. While Clueless is always the most often referred to there are so many other movies that should be celebrated too. Right now, thanks to our continuing obsession with nostalgia and the ’90s being a major trend for spring/summer 2020, not to mention our love of ’80s and ’70s fashion, I’m turning to those classic movies more and more for wardrobe inspiration. Keep scrolling for the 11 films I’m re-watching to help get dressed right now… Were you even a teenage girl in the ’90s if you didn’t do “light as a feather, stiff as a board” with your mates at a sleepover? The Craft is one of those films that will remain as one of my favourites of all time. While levitation attempts might have been a dud, the goth-meets-school-girl is one I will always try to replicate. Cardigans worn over white shirts is what I’m loving here. Kat in 10 Things I Hate About You was so refreshing. She didn’t try to be popular—she didn’t care. Her outfits were a mix of hoodies, long-sleeved T-shirts and combat trousers. A look I
This Under-the-Radar Skincare Brand Is a Beauty-Editor Favourite
June 09, 2020 at 06:30AM With the power of social media, it is very rare in the world of beauty that any brand can be regarded as “under the radar.” You see, every time a person of note likes something and posts about it on their Instagram, they set the whole beauty world on fire. While this is most certainly the case for the majority of brands and products, even in 2020, not everything great breaks the internet. I know we’ve discussed this before, but the reality is even when a product is really, really great, if it doesn’t look the part, the chances of it making it onto the Discover page are low. How do I know this, you ask? Well, because I’m very much in the midst of it. When you spend a lot of time around friends and colleagues who are also beauty editors, experts and specialists, you soon realise that there are two types of favourites: the buzzy ones that everyone posts about and the ones that everyone kind of wants to keep for themselves. One of the latter brands is Paula’s Choice. Founded 25 years ago by Paula Begoun, Paula’s Choice is one of the most highly regarded skincare brands around. Begoun, who has basically dedicated her life to clearing up and simplifying the skincare bubble and has written a number of brilliant books that have pride of place on my bookshelf, champions the idea that skincare should always be backed by scientific evidence and extensive product research. Essentially,
This Is How to Get Your Pores Under Control in the Summer, According to Experts
June 09, 2020 at 06:30AM As a beauty editor, I’m lucky enough to have seasoned skin experts examine my complexion on a regular basis. For years, I have had facialist after facialist tell me that my congested pores need a little help. And it’s true; they always have. Unlike those that are blessed with buttery complexions, my T-zone is plagued with blackheads, and where they aren’t present, my pores appear like cratered pinpricks all over my face. Usually, it doesn’t bother me all that much. Not because they’re not evident but because every time things start to get a little out of hand, I can go running to a facialist who I know will fix it for me. However, the last few months have seen my pore situation get out of control. Without the option of going for regular facials (honestly, who do I think I am?) and since the weather has started to heat up, my face is in a bad way. So after trying countless cleansers and scrubs and realising that relying on facials to fix an ongoing skin problem isn’t a sustainable way to move forward, I figured it best to reach out to those in the know who can teach me how to manage my pore situation on my own at home. Keep scrolling for everything I’ve learned. I did sort of already know this, but I didn’t know the ins and outs of it. I have been told countless times by experts that our pores don’t have the
I Searched All the Sales, and These Are My Favourite Pieces
June 09, 2020 at 06:00AM Unlike the January sales (which all start within a week of each other), the summer sales can be harder to keep track of. Their start dates will be staggered across the months, meaning you have to be more strategic. This month is big for sale shoppers and designer lovers, as MatchesFashion is dropping its prices. And there’s no forgetting high-street brands, including Arket and Topshop, which have everything from boilersuits to summer dresses. Of course, we’re heading toward those cult buys we’ve spotted all over our Insta feeds so far this year, but we’re also picking the pieces you’ll still want to for many years to come. Yes, we mean Wandler bags and Arket tailoring. To help you navigate the often-confusing summer sale season, we’re alerting you when the big events start and pointing you to the best buys around. Every Single Item I Want to “Add to Basket” From the & Other Stories Sale
June 09, 2020 at 06:00AM It’s hard to believe that the 2020 summer sales are already here, but the time has come, and luckily for us, they’re looking pretty good this year. Of course, & Other Stories was at the top of our checklist, as it’s a brand you can always rely on for stylish, expensive-looking staples at purse-friendly prices. Sadly, we are currently unable to venture into its chicer-than-thou stores, but worry not, because the site is packed full with summer-ready wardrobe gems. As you can imagine, there are plenty of fabulous frocks. Think floral, puff-sleeved minis, flattering shirtdresses, smocked detailing and plenty of feel-good colourways. There is also a generous offering of mix-and-match basics that are sure to last long after the summer ends. At the top of my wish list is the organic cotton denim jumpsuit, which you can wear with sandals now and a roll-neck and boots in winter. I also have my eye on the vibrant pink midi dress, which won me over with its chic scoop neckline. Ready to go? Scroll down to see and shop our full & Other Stories summer sale edit. The prettiest shade of pink. Dress up with heels and down with chunky sandals. A serious year-round staple. Add to everything from jeans to midi skirts. We can never say no to a cheeky puff sleeve. This tee will be a layering wardrobe hero. A pleated midi skirt will look good on everyone. The chunky heel will make these super easy to walk in. Got any 2021 weddings in the diary? The ditzy
Every Single Dress I Love This Summer Comes in This One Colour
June 09, 2020 at 06:00AM Green isn’t the most popular colour out there, but make a dress in the hue, and from what I’ve seen, it’s far likelier to fly off the shelves. Many of the most popular midi dresses over the past few years have all been green (often midi, floral and in a grassy shade), and this year, it’s exactly the same story. From acidic neon shades to brighter apple greens, almost every dress I have my eye on this year comes in this shade. Many of this year’s cult dresses on the high street all come in green. There’s COS’s zesty green sleeveless dress, and & Other Stories has delivered numerous beautiful green dresses. If a vibrant green dress is a little too much colour for you, you can find softer options in floral prints that have a green base—Faithfull the Brand, Ghost and Rixo have lots of options. For inspiration on how to style green dresses this summer, keep scrolling for some outfits I’ve saved this month—and then see my edit of green dresses below. I Think This Is Set to be the Cult Dress of the Summer
June 08, 2020 at 02:00PM In the age of lockdowns, social restrictions and event cancellations, it would be easy to assume that the concept of a trending dress might be forgone for the summer of 2020. After all, with weddings postponed, celebrations largely on hold and public spaces still closed, where would one wear such an item? Well, to their living room, apparently. Yes, although this summer is set to look a little different, that hasn’t stopped supermodels and influencers from dressing their best. In fact, models including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Romee Strijd and influencer Camille Charriere have continued to dress up and interestingly enough have gravitated towards the same floor-length maxi as their gown of choice. Designed by It-label, Cult Gaia, the brand’s Serita Dress features an interesting cut-out silhouette and woven knit fabric. It’s dressy enough to be worn to red carpet events, as Candice Swanepoel proved earlier this year, but feels just as suitable for an at-home pub crawl, as Camille Charriere exemplified. Even though we might have nowhere to go, it’s clear this Cult Gaia dress is set to be a favourite this summer. Next up, the biggest S/S 20 fashion trends you need to know.
