June 02, 2020 at 06:00AM I think everyone must have been freezing during the early ’00s, as there was an overwhelmingly popular trend for wearing the shortest of crop tops with the lowest riding jeans. While I can definitely see the appeal in this outfit at the time, looking back, there’s no denying that it looks pretty dated. Thankfully, that trend is not one we’re still wearing today. But I can’t say the same for a few other It pieces that were total winners during the time. In 2020, there have been quite a few trends we all loved back then that have found their way into our wardrobes. From halter-necks to clutch bags to combat trousers, I’ve detailed five of the biggest trends we loved during the early ’00s and how we’re wearing them now. Then: The slip-dress trend of the ’90s definitely influenced the halter-necks of the ’00s. Of course, Kate Moss knew how to make it look incredible by layering her white low-cut halter under a lace skirt. Now: Anything goes with halter-necks in 2020. Clash bold printed tops with brightly coloured trousers, or opt for my personal favourite—a high-neck halter, which looks very chic paired with a bright prink blazer. Then: Of course, the Olsens knew the clutch bag was cool. While some trends definitely should have stayed in the early ’00s (crotchless jeans, we’re looking at you), the clutch is one that will always look sophisticated. Now: Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll

The Most “Fashion” Shoes, Dress and Top of Summer 2020
June 02, 2020 at 06:00AM When writing our spring/summer 2020 trend report, we never could have anticipated the way life as we know it would change. While many of the buyers’ predictions about holiday clothes and wedding guest outfits are now irrelevant in the current climate, there are several items that are proving to be just as popular, despite not being able to be worn outside. “The large majority of the runway collections have been incredibly wearable, the brands have showcased the ultimate wardrobing heroes in a new and interesting way: the suit, the Bermuda short, the white shirt, the tank top,” said Elizabeth von der Goltz, global buying director at Net-a-Porter, back in December. There has been a shift toward simplicity rather than anything too attention-seeking within fashion circles, partly driven by the industry’s heightened focus on sustainability. There are three classic items in particular that editors, buyers and influencers are still embracing for the summer and are still easy to wear inside and for daily walks: platform flip-flops, puff-sleeved dresses and elegant polo shirts. Keep scrolling to see and shop the “fashion” shoes, dress, and top of summer 2020. When it comes to sandals this year, the “fashion” shoe of the year is without a doubt platform flip-flops. We can thank Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and The Row’s Ginza flip-flops for the return of this ’90s style. Puff-sleeved minidresses were the silhouette of 2019, and they’re staying firmly put for 2020. As our lifestyles have all rapidly changed, we are looking for clothes that are comfortable and easy
This Nightie Is the Perfect Throw-On Dress for Afternoons In the Park
June 02, 2020 at 05:44AM Despite our increased amount of time spent indoors, our appetite for pretty dresses certainly hasn’t settled down. Many are now retiring their loungewear and leggings, and a throw-on dress is the easiest way to ‘get dressed’ but still feel relaxed at home. Enter the brand of choice—Sleeper. This brand was founded as a pyjama label, and so naturally they create the comfiest nightie-style dresses around. Sleeper’s most popular dresses have puffy short sleeves and loos like something straight out of a Victorian nursery tale. The brand has updated the traditional white nightdress with bold colours and pretty prints, such as florals and pretty polka dots. We’re especially taken aback by the dusty-pink version. The Instagram crowd proves that this nightie is the perfect throw-on dress for days working at home in the heat, or socially distanced picnics. Perfect for those days when you can’t waste any time deciding what to wear. Style Notes: Dress the linen maxi up with heels and a statement bag. Style Notes: This Atlanta midi dress is perhaps our favourite dress for summer. Style Notes: Another look at the Atlanta midi… Style Notes: We told you the gingham print was pretty. Style Notes: You can push the sleeves down for a more off-the-shoulder look like Emma. Next up, see our guide to the key trends for spring summer 2020. 5 Princess Diana Outfits I Can’t Wait to Copy at Home
June 01, 2020 at 06:01PM Princess Diana is undoubtedly one of the world’s most talked-about style icons. From her voluminous 1980s wedding dress to the streamlined, minimalist gowns she donned in the early ’90s, almost everything Lady Di ever wore has been analysed and appreciated the world over. Though there is one aspect of Princess Diana’s wardrobe that has typically garnered much less attention: her off-duty outfits. Between the cycling shorts, oversize sweatshirts, straight-leg jeans and boxy blazers, Princess Diana’s casualwear choices would not look out of place in 2020. In fact, I’d happily wear many of her more casual looks today. The royal’s aesthetic was so timeless it manages to transcend decades, particularly given the fact that bike shorts and everyday athleisure are reigning supreme right now. With a wardrobe that consisted of quality basics including tailored beige trousers, linen button-down shirts, loafers and roll-necks, many of the items Princess Diana utilised regularly are also likely already living in your existing wardrobe. So from gym gear to polished weekend looks, keep scrolling for five Princess Diana outfits we’d happily wear today, proving she was the ultimate off-duty muse. Anti-Racist Actions You Can Take Today
June 01, 2020 at 05:38PM The devastating current events—most recently the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor—are a wake-up call for many looking to do better, help in whatever way they can, and educate themselves. It is incredibly important to our editorial team and company to make sure that we’re doing the necessary work, too. One part of that is using our platform to share some actionable ideas on how to combat racism and prejudice with our WWW community. We welcome anyone who would like to start a thoughtful conversation or add to these resources to email us at hello@whowhatwear.com. – This anti-racism resources document compiled by Sarah Sophie Flicker and Alyssa Klein in May 2020 includes books for adults and children, articles, podcasts, videos and films, and organisations to follow. – When buying books, especially ones to educate yourself on this issue, buy from black-owned bookstores: U.K.: Roundtable Books, Ayebia, African Books Collective, New Beacon Books, Seven Oaks Bookshop. U.S.: Mahogany Books, Harrietts Bookshop, The Lit Bar, and Semicolon Bookstore. Our suggestion is to start with How to Be an Antiracist by Dr. Ibram X. Kendi. Look for Black authors first. (NB: Reni Eddo-Lodge, author of Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race, has asked that if you buy a copy to also donate money to the Minnesota Freedom Fund or borrow a copy from a friend.) – Take Harvard’s implicit bias test to learn your level of conscious and unconscious bias on things like light versus dark skin tone preference and many other categories including race,
These Are the 12 Pieces I’d Buy From H&M’s New Studio Collection
June 01, 2020 at 10:21AM While many of us might not be able to hit the beach this summer, H&M’s second Studio Collection might just bring a little wanderlust to your life this week. Continuing on from the first drop’s surfer vibes, the latest offering is packed full of summer-ready staples, including maxi dresses, shorts, shirts and kaftans all in vibrant shades that instantly recall a beach at sunset. Ok, so we might be wearing the bikini to sunbathe in the local park, but rest assured that these are sure to be warm weather heroes for many years to come. At the top of our wishlist is the finely pleated maxi dress, which will look just as good over a bikini with flipflops as it will with city-ready Birkenstocks and a layered white tee. We also have our eye on the shorts-and-shirt co-ord, which will keep you cool thanks to its loose fit. One other thing, this collection has a habit of selling out within 24 hours, so if fall for something, make sure you don’t delay. Happy scrolling! 20 Items You Should Own by the Time You’re 30
June 01, 2020 at 06:10AM There’s something that happens in your 30s: Whether you want to or not (and whether you’re even aware of it or not), you grow up. Everything about your worldview becomes a bit more mature, and your style evolves along with it. While much of this evolution happens very naturally, for our wardrobe, that might not be the case. And as we get older, our clothes matter more. It’s all about sleek pieces that’ll make you look chic at all times. A blazer, high-waist trousers and ankle boots are just some of those timeless classics. If that sounds like your life right now, then luckily, we’re here to help—because when it comes to clothes, everyone can sometimes use a nudge towards adulthood from time to time. For this reason, we’ve come up with 20 pieces you should own by the time you’re 30 that will make getting dressed easier and ensure you always look incredibly chic. Scroll down for 20 items you should own by the time you’re 30, plus where to shop key pieces. We all remember the day of Britney Spears–inspired ultra-low-rise jeans. They had their moment in the sun, but as we mature and our bodies mature with us, they become a less and less viable option. Instead, reach for a pair of classic straight-leg jeans in a year-round suitable mid-wash. While we fully commend the Kim Kardashian West look, some days we don’t feel quite so body-confident. Some days, we’re all for the more demure
This Under-the-Radar Brand Does the Best Throw-On Summer Dresses
June 01, 2020 at 06:00AM Welcome to our newest editorial initiative, Who What Wear Spotlight, where we’ll be using our editorial platform, social following, and ad inventory to turn the spotlight on small businesses that need our support now more than ever. Each week, we’ll be highlighting a new fashion or beauty company. If you own a small brand and would like to be considered for the program, please apply here. With travel suspended for the foreseeable, brands that focus on swimwear and holiday clothing will see an inevitable tumble in demand and have an even harder time ahead of them than all fashion brands. So for this Spotlight we wanted to focus on a label in this category—and contemporary brand Belize’s throw-on dresses and gingham swimsuits will look just as good in a London park this summer as on any Mediterranean coastline. Belize is now four years old, and was founded by two friends Fiona Bansal and Valeska Deutsch, who met when working as designers at Stella McCartney. Given their background, it’s no surprise that sustainable methods are at the heart of the collections and they create timeless summer pieces that look straight out of Jane Birkin’s suitcase. They typically stick to checked fabrics, muted colours and relaxed silhouettes, that all make for a beautiful throw-on summer capsule. Belize is positioned at a contemporary price point, and so with £200+ summer dresses and £100-something bikinis, this is clothing designed to be treasured and more than one summer. Here the founders explain how they built the brand
Best Wardrobes in Britain: Zeena Shah
June 01, 2020 at 06:00AM Welcome to the latest highly exciting instalment of Who What Wear UK’s Best Wardrobes in Britain. It’s where we do exactly what it says on the tin: delve into the most fantastical, awe-inspiring and downright influential wardrobes in this fair country of ours. We’re honing in on the women who cause the street style photographers to press their shutters as much as the characters you don’t yet know—the ones who fly under the radar with secretly incredible clothing collections. Currently the idea of stepping inside someone else’s home is unthinkable, however before the country went into lockdown back in March I entered one of the cheeriest flats in London for our Best Wardrobes in Britain franchise. Everything about Zeena Shah’s home reflects her optimistic outlook—she lives in a one bedroom flat in a 1920s Art Deco building in East London which has a baby blue and sugary pink exterior that looks it belongs in Miami, and certainly not Hackney. It’s a fitting backdrop for Zeena given she dresses like a rainbow every day of the week and you could use the word ‘pretty’ to describe pretty much everything she owns. Zeena is the Art Director of the children’s book company Wonderbly, however she is also a print textile designer, has published two books and often runs craft workshops. The work she does with fashion brands on her Instagram account is therefore a tiny fraction of her working week. Her little corner of the internet is filled with things that make her, and many
20 Chic Interior Buys From John Lewis if You’re Over Looking At Loungewear
June 01, 2020 at 06:00AM It seems as though this period of social distancing has coaxed out our inner interior designers, and while Instagram is always chock-a-block with snapshots of tasteful picture walls and carefully manicured yuccas, the last two months have taken things to another level. In our day-to-day lives, our wardrobes are usually a canvas on which to project our creativity, but now that we’re limited in our social interactions, our homes have presented the ideal alternative. All we can say is, thank goodness for the internet, and we’ve been scrolling through the homeware sections of all our favourite stores, and we have to say John Lewis is coming up trumps this season. Of course, it has long been a high street go-to, but the Great British institution has been competing for the accolade of ‘most stylish affordable homeware brand’, and to be honest, they’re making a pretty convincing case. . So, what’s on our wishlist for summer 2020? There’s so much to love right now, and we’ve got our eye on everything from cool wall prints and graphic print cushions, to cosy throws and printed rugs. If you’re in need of a bit of home inspo, feel free to scroll on down and check out the pieces we’re ‘adding to basket’ this season.
