Trust Me—This Small Parisian Brand Is Going to Be the Next Big Thing
May 27, 2020 at 06:00AM Most of us won’t have touched a handbag since lockdown began, instead sticking to a bag for life for our groceries and pockets for our credit cards. But now that we see signs of things slowly reopening and can visit garden centres and take a book to the park, many are in need of a chuck-it-all-in practical handbag. If you want something a little jazzier than a basket bag, then I’ve just found an under-the-radar French brand that creates the most beautiful striped tote bags. Rue de Verneuil was founded in 2014, however, it’s a new name to British shoppers as has just been stocked by MatchesFashion. The 1950s-inspired tote bags have a Riviera feel to them, as they have a thin elegant pinstripe, a tan leather strap and come in the colours you typically see lining the French coastline (primarily red, baby blue and a soft yellow). The handbags are made by hand in the Parisian studio and are an investment for a shopping bag costing between £100 and £200. However, it’s a handbag we really would use for every occasion in summer and is timeless enough to come out every holiday for the next ten years. These Sisters Look Back on Their Favourite Ever Travel Memory
May 27, 2020 Here at Who What Wear UK, we’re all about bringing you the latest and greatest shopping edits, trend reports and cult beauty straight from the front line. But we’re also about inspiration and exploration, with a love of women who are unafraid of playing with their style. At the beginning of 2020, we launched a travel-inspired series called the Fernweh Diaries, wherein some of the industry’s most free-spirited, adventurous women travelled the world and reported back on what they found. Fernweh is a German word that means to have a craving for travel and adventure, something we relate to now more than ever. Instagram’s coolest sisters, Jordan and Loanne Collyer— the Collyer Twins— have a love for the lesser-known towns of Southern Spain, as this is an area their family has often visited and explored. These images were created before restrictions were put in place, and as we enter week eight of lockdown, we decided to share the story to allow you to experience some wanderlust from the comfort of your living room. Escapism has arguably never been so important. For us, travelling is about feeling free, living in the moment, switching off and taking in your surroundings— immersing yourself in the sights and smells of a new place. We grew up living in both Portugal and Brazil so we’ve always had a nomadic spirit, which is one of the main reasons we felt drawn to Chloé’s new Nomade Absolu fragrance. We feel like it was made for
I Was Scared of Face Oils Until I Discovered This £30 One
May 26, 2020 at 02:00PM There’s no doubting that of all the beauty products out there, face oil is definitely one of the most divisive. The reason? While some claim that using face oil actually balances oily skin—resulting in less oil production and a natural, lit-from-within glow—others believe that it’s too heavy for some skin types, with certain oils actually clogging pores and exacerbating breakouts. So despite celebrities like Pixi Geldof and Julia Roberts raving about the benefits of using argan oil and olive oil on their faces, I’ve remained slightly nervous about regularly slathering something so greasy onto my spot-prone skin. That is, until I learned about another type of oil that not only promised a whole host of skin benefits but claimed to be the perfect face oil for those of us with oily, acne-prone or sensitive complexions. Grapeseed oil is nothing new, but if you’re anything like me, you might not have been aware of its skincare benefits. In fact, with trendier ingredients like coconut oil constantly hitting the beauty headlines, you might not have heard of grapeseed oil at all. Naturally brimming with vitamins C, D and E—alongside high levels of omega-6 fatty acids and linoleic acid—grapeseed oil contains basically all of the stuff our skin needs to look and feel healthy. Plus it’s naturally anti-inflammatory (so it’s great for calming irritated or sensitive skin), antimicrobial (so it targets spot-causing bacteria) and noncomedogenic—meaning that it won’t clog your pores. Turns out celebs aren’t immune to the benefits of grapeseed oil either. Emma Stone, who is also a
The Spring Wedding Guest Dresses You’ll Wear Again and Again
May 26, 2020 at 08:10AM The best wedding guest dresses are something we search for each and every month of the year, and every time, our quest for the wedding guest outfit drama comes into play. After all, the matrimonial schedule never stops, and we can understand why it’s a big deal to locate the ultimate frock for the big day. Choosing an outfit for such an important event is one of the most high-pressure wardrobe situations a fashion fanatic will find themselves in all year. Who will be there? Will you be caught off-guard in a candid snap? What about the pictures that last forever and ever in everyone’s photo albums? And then there’s what you really want to opt for in your heart of hearts. Lace? Pastels? Florals? Designer? High street? So many options. That’s not to even mention choices other than dresses (of which there are many, but we won’t go there here). Sometimes, the answer comes in the form of an elevated, beautiful gown that wins in one swish of a hem. We start thinking about dresses as soon as the invitations come in and feel it’s never too early to start planning for a wedding. We’ve scoured the latest collections to bring you a fashion editor’s selection of the greatest new-season pieces to invest in, be it for a ceremony at a beach getaway, in a city or nestled in a cosy country retreat. These 31 White Shirts Are Easily the Best Right Now
May 26, 2020 at 07:00AM There’s nothing like a white shirt, is there? It’s almost comforting how reliable it can be—easily worn with everything you own, from jeans to skirts and even smart track pants. It’s a blank canvas for accessories. I’m personally a fan of wearing a white shirt with big gold hoops or a vintage chain necklace or even both. But you can wear it with any colour or shape of earring, necklace or bracelet, and it will look polished and refined. (Just make sure it’s had a good iron.) While a classic button-down is always a winner, 2020’s version of the white shirt is a little more exciting. Whether it’s an oversize collar, like Miu Miu’s or Ganni’s sold-out versions, or a puff-sleeve or even a tie-waist, so many white shirts right now have some little twist or detail. All you need to do is simply wear it tucked in to high-waisted jeans or under a jumper with the collar poking out. Of course, you can still go with bold accessories, too. I’ve Tested This Affordable Skincare Line for a Year—Here Are My Top 7 Products
May 26, 2020 at 06:30AM The most expensive one is £18. By now, you’re likely familiar with our (very fabulous) sister skincare line, Versed. It’s affordable (£18 and under) and composed of 19 sustainably sourced, nontoxic, results-driven skin essentials. From cleansers and serums to masks and toners, Versed has quickly become one of the most beloved skincare brands among WWW readers, editors, even celebrities, and facialists. My mom (who’s 73, fabulous, and obsessed with her skin) has also given the brand two thumbs-up, and the fact that we’re coming up to Versed’s first birthday is absolutely mind-boggling to me considering how much buzz and love it’s managed to garner in our community. As Who What Wear’s beauty editor, I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the brand’s must-have products pre-launch last year, so this month actually marks the one-year point of my first introduction to the line. I’m super nitpicky when it comes to skincare, and my skin is also sensitive and acne-prone. Not to sound like a product snob, but when it comes to skincare, I’m a product snob, and I have very particular tastes in ingredients and formulations. Of course, I knew that Who What Wear’s savviest beauty experts and researchers were behind Versed’s magic, but that didn’t necessarily mean I would love all of the products. That said, one year after being introduced to the brand, I honestly use 10 of the 19 products regularly within my skin regimen and love to shout my appreciation for them from the rooftops. (Especially considering how clean and affordable they are compared
4 Sandals That Are Already Trending in 2020
May 26, 2020 at 06:00AM Just because we’re mainly staying inside our houses, balconies or (if we’re lucky) gardens, that doesn’t mean we can’t still spend five minutes looking at shoes. Anything too high or too sparkly is retiring to the back of our wardrobes, for the time being, but sandals (once they are sufficiently worn in, of course) can conveniently double as slippers. We’ve already brought you the sandal trends that are leading this year, but there are four sandal styles, in particular, that I keep spotting on my Instagram feed. One pair is close to our hearts, as Who What Wear has just launched shoes. Our thong sandals in white, snake and black have been particularly popular with our friends. Arizona Love’s Velcro-strap sandals are as cheery as they get thanks to the colourful printed fabrics adorned to the straps. The other two trending sandals are certainly more extravagant. However, The Row’s Ginza flip-flops and Proenza Schouler’s collaboration with Birkenstock are rapidly gaining cult status. Keep scrolling to see the four sandals that are trending in 2020. From Rixo to Ganni, I Just Found 20 Dreamy Dresses For Under £300
May 26, 2020 at 06:00AM Here at Who What Wear we believe that you can achieve great style at every budget. Everyone will have differing criterions and constraints when it comes to shopping, and naturally these will also vary over your lifetime. I’ve always been very picky about what I spend my money on, and despite working in the fashion industry, I’m reluctant to spend over the odds on something unless I’m really sure I’m going to get a good return on investment. When I have taken the plunge, however, it has been fascinating to see which purchases pay off. Interestingly it has been dresses that have been some of the biggest stand-outs, with favourites including a Ganni checked maxi and a Topshop Boutique silken midi that I bought for my brother’s wedding (yes, technically high street, but it was on the pricier end). This sentiment is echoed by the rest of the team, with many contemporary luxury brands making appearances in our wardrobe top 10s: Think the likes of Stine Goya, Rixo, Ghost, Staud. The great thing about these pieces is that they offer something a little more special that your average bargain buy (many of which can sometimes end up looking identikit), but they don’t have that eye-popping four-figure price tag that can be attached to the big name brands. Of course, we understand that not everyone will want to, or will be able to, spend up to £300 on a frock, but maybe it’s considering for a very special occasion or getting your friends to club together for a big
25 Little Black Dresses for Timeless Summer Style
May 26, 2020 at 05:24AM The little black dress used to be synonymous with slinky, thigh-grazing, body-con frocks. These days, I’d argue that the LBD is more of a state of mind—it’s less overtly seductive but rather quietly alluring. Because not everyone wants, or even feels comfortable, wearing a look-at-me dress. (Although, of course, if that’s your thing, more power to you.) The notion of feeling sassy means different things to different people. It might be a tied waist, a flash of décolletage or a glimpse of shoulder. For that reason, I’ve created an edit of my favourite LBDs with a 2020 twist. Some are classic mini, but rest assured there are also midi dresses, slips and some that have subtle details to make you feel chic but slinky. This piece was published at an earlier date and has since been updated. Next up, the biggest spring/summer 2020 fashion trends you need to know. Author Elinor Block | Whowhatwear Selected by CWC
