Katie Holmes’s Stylist Gave Me a FaceTime Makeover

May 23, 2020 at 11:00AM Celebrity stylist Allison Bornstein is someone I always look to for great fashion advice. Not only does she dress her clients, such as Katie Holmes, in seriously covetable outfits, but she also makes it a point to make cool style accessible to everyone. In my opinion, she is exactly the type of person we need in fashion right now. Her Instagram (@allisonbornstein6) is an amazing resource for fashion ideas, as she uses the platform to bring her expertise to everyone, not just her A-list clientele. There, she breaks down exactly how to wear wardrobe staples and trends at all price points. Right now, she’s offering FaceTime consultations that walk people through their personal styling questions, meaning face-to-face time with an industry expert to guide you through anything from which pieces you should keep versus donate to how to wear the latest trends. Intrigued, I booked a session with Bornstein and asked her to help me restyle some of my most-worn basics and give me inspiration for new ways to wear them. Ahead, see the takeaways from my FaceTime makeover with Allison Bornstein. Bornstein and I started out our FaceTime call talking about how, exactly, I wanted to utilise the hour. Did I want to know how to style a tricky piece or have her walk me through her full wardrobe-editing system? For me, I was curious about how she could help me restyle my main wardrobe staples in interesting ways. Lay out the basics: First, I laid out some of the most-worn pieces in my closet that I’m still wearing right now

17 Women Who Prove It’s Seriously Chic to Let Your Hair Go Grey Naturally

May 23, 2020 at 06:30AM If you have spent the best part of your life worrying about the inevitable arrival of grey hairs, you’re not alone. In fact, since 2018, Pinterest searches for “going grey” have increased by 879%—and we totally get it. After all, going grey requires a whole bunch of hair decisions to be made. While full-colour transformations and highlights prove popular options for those going grey, the maintenance and upkeep can be very expensive. On top of the financial aspect of covering grey hairs comes the pressure to keep them hidden. For many years, there has been an element of shame that comes alongside going grey. So much so that grey hair is cited as the number one hair concern for women in the UK. At the moment, with salons still closed for the time being, it seems people far and wide are at a total loss with what to do with their grey roots. And while covering them up and at-home dyes are an option, we think there’s something rather chic about embracing your natural hair colour in all of its glory, no? That’s right—a wave of grey acceptance is coming over the beauty industry, and we couldn’t be happier. Thanks to shampoos and conditioners that work to keep grey hair looking fresh (Redken Color Extend Graydiant, £15, can’t be beaten) and blow-dry foams that work to temporarily disguise grey hairs while you transition from brunette to silver (John Frieda Defy Grey Blow Dry Foam, £7, is a

The Best Face Masks for Every Single Skin Concern

May 23, 2020 at 06:30AM If the last few weeks have taught us anything about beauty, it’s that a face mask really is the ultimate form of self-care. With a bit more free time on our hands, I think it’s safe to say we’re all masking more than ever. In fact, our Who What Wear editors’ instant chat has seen talk of masks increase tenfold. Where as previously we’d reach for a face mask once in a blue moon, when our skin was looking particular dismal, now we’ve found ourselves asking if there is such a thing as too much masking. And the answer is, kinda, sorta. You see, face masks shouldn’t be used flippantly. They contain some of the most hardworking and potent ingredients around, meaning they have the ability to make or break your complexion. If you ask me, it is all too often because of this blasé approach to masking that so many people complain of post-mask breakouts. The truth is, masks shouldn’t cause angry breakouts. Providing you have found the right formula for you, they should better your complexion. The key is in working out which masks your specific skin type will benefit from. To help make things easier for you, keep scrolling for the best masks for every concern. If your skin is feeling particularly dry, a moisturising face mask could be just what it needs. Look for creamy formulas and deeply hydrating sheets that work to repair the barrier and deliver essential nourishment. Steer clear of anything deeply exfoliating

6 Epic Celebrity Throwback Outfits I’d Happily Wear Today

May 23, 2020 at 06:04AM Given the state of the world right now, I have found myself longing for simpler times. Between watching reruns of old Friends episodes and perusing vintage celebrity images on Instagram, it seems I have a serious case of nineties nostalgia. Though my new obsession with all things old has not just become a way to pass the time, it’s also proven to be quite a fruitful exercise in outfit inspiration.  Between the faded denim, clean tailoring and simple silhouettes, many of the chic celebrity looks I’ve come across from the decade would not feel out of place over 20 years later. In fact, several of the outfits feel so modern, I’d happy re-wear them today if I could. Jennifer Aniston sported a floral maxi to an event in 1997, which looks eerily similar to many iterations on the market this summer. Cameron Diaz wore a skirt-suit–and-sneaker combo in 1994, which also happens to be the outfit formula we saw influencers wearing at London’s most recent fashion week. Tyra Banks’ 1996 airport attire looks like it could have been photographed just yesterday, while the crochet midi dress Naomi Campbell wore in 1997 is so on-trend, I could have sworn an extra is wearing it in Harry Styles’ latest music video. I guess everything that was once old is new again. This French Grandmother Just Landed the Coolest Modelling Gig in Fashion

May 23, 2020 at 06:00AM The lockdown has provided endless challenges for businesses around the world, however, it has been amazing to see which brands have quickly innovated and thought of ways to carry on working while still closely following the restrictions. As photoshoots have now been cancelled, one of the main hurdles for fashion brands is how they can photograph their upcoming collections. Models are shooting campaigns by themselves on their sofas and photographers are transforming front rooms into makeshift studios. One of the best solutions I’ve seen is Jacquemus’ latest images, where the designer, Simon Porte Jacquemus, photographed his grandmother Liline among the spring blossom in France in his designs. It’s the perfect snapshot for summer 2020 when family is top of mind for many—whether we’re missing those we’re close to or are quaratined with them. Liline models the collection beautifully, posing in a boxy bright-pink blazer and carrying as many of the iconic handbags as she can. Keep scrolling to see the coolest grandmother in fashion. We Just Tried on the Bra That Claims to Be One-Size-Fits-All

May 23, 2020 at 06:00AM A few weeks ago, I was kindly sent a newly released underwear set from Sloggi, a brand that, in all honesty, I hadn’t really come across before. What really made me sit up and pay attention, however, was the fact that the bra and pants were being branded as one-size-fits-all. Seriously. Coming in a range of colourways, the bra is a crop-top style with a deep-V and thick shoulder straps, while the underwear comes in two fits: high-waisted and hipster. Is it really possible to make something as important as underwear fit all body shapes? I was highly dubious and worried this might be a poorly judged brand message, so was keen to find out… Personally, I fell in love with the set the moment I tried it on (see my full review below) and proceeded to wax poetic to the rest of the team about my new discovery. However, I really wanted to road test the design’s single-size credentials, as I couldn’t quite believe that a bra could fit someone as small-busted as myself as well as my curvier colleagues. So, naturally, I called in the troops—aka Who What Wear’s editors—to put the underwear through its paces. Sloggi’s go-round pants on Stephanie Broek. As a team, we range from a UK 6 to a UK 12, and bra sizes 30C to 32DD, so obviously, we can’t speak for every body shape and bust size, however, hopefully, we can give some sense of the extent of the underwear’s multisize

These Glow-Giving Products Always Have People Asking Me If I’ve Been on Holiday

May 22, 2020 at 06:30PM Just like many other beauty lovers in the world, I am on a never-ending quest to achieve the ultimate glow. You know exactly the kind I mean. The kind where the skin looks naturally bronzed in only the places that the sun would actually hit it. It’s a complexion that’s dewy, radiant and generally healthy. And although it’s true that almost everyone longs for skin that looks as such, I really have dedicated a huge amount of time and money into finding exactly how best I can achieve such faux glow. From bronzers and highlighters to tanning drops and moisturisers, I have tried them all. From my experience, I have gained one, very important key finding, and that is this: While mimicking a sun-enhanced glow might seem like a hassle and expenditure you don’t want, there is absolutely no excuse to shortcut the process and step outside on a springtime day sans SPF. And trust me on that one. I have learned the hard way. After spending many of my teenage years sizzling myself silly in a bid to get a golden tan, my complexion is now plagued with irreversible sun damage. My forehead is crepey and my nose and cheeks are covered in pigmentation. Wearing Erborian CC Dull Correct and Lumene Watercolor Bronzer After years of testing and trialling every single bronze-boosting, glow-giving and radiance-ramping product that has come my way, I think I have finally settled on what makes the perfect formula. Sure, powder bronzers are great, but they lack

4 Accessories I Use to Make Old Outfits Feel New Again

May 22, 2020 at 01:06PM With spring now officially here, our outfits are set to be in a period of transition. While many of us are currently living in the comfort of leggings and tracksuits, it’s hard not to mentally plan the outfits we’ll wear once life returns to normal. For me, I know I’ll be re-wearing many of my old favourites and utilising the outfits I’ve loved in the past. And although it can seem boring to repeat the same looks time and time again, I’ve gained a few tricks over the years to help me feel fresh even when I’m wearing the same combination of items. Enter accessories. Whether it be a bold, printed scarf, a statement belt, some eye-catching jewellery or a pair of jazzy socks, accessories have to ability to transform your entire outfit. For example, a white T-shirt looks completely anew once adorned with a few layers of gold chains, and adding a wide, waist-cinching belt over your favourite dress can give it an entirely new aesthetic. Pairing printed tights or fun socks against your favourite sandals can add interest to an outfit, as can throwing a silk scarf over your shoulders or tying one around your waist. With this in mind, keep scrolling for the four accessories I use to make old outfits feel new again. I’m a Beauty Editor, and I Never Learned These Basic Makeup Skills Until Now

May 22, 2020 at 11:30AM As a beauty editor, I like to think that I know a thing or two about, well, beauty. I can recite product formulas and ingredient lists without fault and can go into quite intense detail about dermal layers and how your current skincare routine might be affecting them (anyone?). However, there is one area which, when quizzed on, my expertise begins to falter. And that is makeup technique. When it comes to makeup, I like a slightly more natural finish that takes no longer than 10 minutes to apply. I like a natural glow, flushed cheeks, unruly brows and freckles. However, that’s not to say that I don’t appreciate the more artistic makeup looks. In fact, I often stare on in awe when watching people execute a razor-sharp liner flick on public transport and have been known to sit in front of YouTube for hours attempting to teach myself how to contour my nose. Before makeup application. The truth is there are just far too many makeup tricks I can’t master. And in all honesty I feel like a bit of a beauty editor phoney. I can’t give advice on how to achieve the perfect winged liner, I don’t fully understand what makes a great contour powder, and don’t even think about asking me how to best apply false lashes. So since I’ve been spending a little (a lot) more time at home, I decided that now is as good a time as any to sit down and really teach
