May 13, 2020 at 04:13AM While we’re still in the middle of spring, I’m mentally already fast-forwarding to summer. Don’t get me wrong—I love to layer up in coats and boots, but I pretty much live for warm-weather style, so summer is where my wardrobe really shines. After all, I grew up in Arizona and live in L.A., so feel like I’ve become somewhat of an expert when it comes to dressing for summer. So which trends are on my radar and which pieces do I think will be huge in a few months? Looking to the runways and fashion insiders, it’s clear that there are a number of trends that will be big this summer, from padded shoulders and bold colours to chain heels and exposed bras (and plenty more). Ahead, see the seven summer trends I’m predicting are about to blow up, and shop my edit. Get ready to say goodbye to your ordinary tees and hello to padded-shoulder versions. The rising micro-trend is already huge on the street style scene but will be everywhere by summer. This cult top keeps selling out. Updated classic. Kendall Jenner recently wore this dress version. Sure, aviator sunglasses have been around forever, but this summer, we’ll be seeing updated takes on the classic. Bottega Veneta’s sleek hexagonal pair have already been popular with celebs like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, but we’re also seeing other brands coming out with their own take on the reinvented aviator. We can thank Bottega Veneta for putting this trend on the map. This shape feels

Stacey Dooley Has Created the Chicest Capsule Wardrobe for You
May 12, 2020 at 05:22PM She’s known for her dance-floor prowess and hard-hitting presenting skills, but Stacey Dooley has proven time and time again that one of her biggest talents is outfit curation. With an eye for sleek casual finds, she’s fast become our off-duty style muse, and her latest array of outfits haven’t disappointed either. Centred around sleek loungewear, Stacey’s impressive collection of joggers, trainers, and knits is second to none, but her looks don’t stop there. What really gives her ensembles polish is her well-chosen accessories which she uses to effortlessly elevate her loungewear to chic new heights. So impressed are we that we set about replacing Stacey’s looks for ourselves—and we thought you’d like to see them, too. From grey marl and leopard print to hoodies and It kicks, keep scrolling to see and shop Stacey Dooley’s loungewear capsule. Note how she gives a pair of joggers a dose of cool with the addition of a chunky chain necklace and on-trend flip-flops. Back at it again with the flip-flops, Stacey’s jean-and-jumper combination is simple but oh-so effective. Seriously, how does she make this jogger-and-hoodie pairing look so slick? We think it has something to do with her leather shoes. Running errands, Stacey relies on a fluid trench coat to give her joggers and trainers a fashionable twist. Tres chic, Stacey. Here Stacey swaps her trusty joggers for an equally comfortable pair of taper-leg tailored trousers, which she gives an edgy dressing down with colourful kicks. Stacey is just as obsessed with
How to Turn Your Desk Into a Stylish Working Haven
May 12, 2020 at 02:20PM A desk is so much more than a workspace. It’s a place to channel your creative energy, a place to feel inspired and a place to reflect on your achievements as you set yourself new goals. Which is why we think your desk and home office should be given more consideration. As such, we set about unpacking what makes a desk space stylish, serene and motivating. Research into the matter included endlessly scrolling Instagram for inspiration, and what we found was that many of the desk setups we were most drawn to feature many 10 key items. Naturally, you’ll need the desk itself and an equally stylish chair to accompany it. But the pieces that truly elevate a desk are the accessories you bestow it with—think lighting, stationery, notebooks and even motivational prints. If you don’t know where to begin, don’t fret, for we’ve found the chicest desk, chair and add-on options out there, so you can swiftly upgrade your workspace, then get back to doing what you do best. I Try Tonnes of Skincare Every Year, But This Is My Desert Island Product
May 12, 2020 at 12:17PM As a beauty editor, I am often asked what my favourite beauty product is. And quite frankly, that’s like asking a mother to choose her favourite child. The truth is, there is simply too much to choose from. For instance, I categorically could not settle on one favourite makeup product, however if you were to ask me my favourite foundation (Nars Radiant Longwear, £32) or perhaps my favourite mascara (L’Oréal Paris Paradise, £12), I could definitely pull out one name. When it comes to skincare though, I have always had one clear winner. You see, although it is by no means easy to whittle down my beloved skincare collection to just one clear favourite, there is one product that I think everyone could benefit from owning, whatever their skin type. And no, I’m not being paid to say this. When I was first told about the wonders of Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Complex II (£52), I vividly remember walking into my local John Lewis and being stunned at the price. There’s no doubt that Advanced Night Repair was the most expensive skincare product I had ever bought, and I couldn’t fathom that one single product could be worth that money. Six years on and now I actually have back-ups of the stuff in my cupboard. You see, Advanced Night Repair is one of those wonderfully classic beauty products that has become so iconic over time, that actually the extent of its wonderfulness has got a bit lost.
How to Decide If Something Is Really Worth Buying
May 12, 2020 at 07:00AM I made a decision at the beginning of 2020 that I wasn’t going to buy anything brand new unless I genuinely needed it. If I wanted to buy something because I loved a trend, I’d look for it second-hand, opting to purchase pieces through Vestiaire Collective, Etsy, eBay or Depop. So far this year, I’ve bought a great ’90s chain necklace for a tenner and a pair of knee-high snakeskin boots. For full transparency, working in fashion, I am lucky enough to get some gifted items. That said, I was still shopping more than I needed to. However, with summer approaching, and having more time at home to look through my wardrobe, I realised I have very few pieces that will keep me cool once the warmer weather hits. I made a list of the pieces that I needed: a new vest top (that won’t show my bra), a pair of linen trousers that are super comfy but also smart, and a loose black dress (previous years’ versions don’t fit). One of the main catalysts for being more wary about my shopping habits was when I started to follow My Frugal Year, an anonymous Instagram account on one woman’s decision to be honest about her £27K debt and how she was getting out of it. Last month, a woman named Clare Seal revealed that she was behind the account—quite the moment for those of us who had been following since early 2019. The thing is, you don’t
I Tried All the Trending Beauty Products on TikTok, and I Have Some Thoughts
May 12, 2020 at 06:30AM Quick disclaimer: I love social media. Like, I really love it. I could scroll through Instagram for hours and hours and get lost in all of the wonderful beauty content that it has to offer. I love the reviews, I love the flatlays, I love the tutorials, and I love watching other people’s skincare routines. Taking all of this into consideration, it really is hard to believe that I just can’t get to grips with TikTok. Call me old-fashioned, but when I buy my beauty products, I like to know exactly what I’m getting myself in for. And whereas over the years, Instagram has struck the perfect balance of providing just the right amount of information while still holding attention, TikTok just doesn’t cut it for me. Sure, it makes for addictive scrolling, but as a beauty editor, something about recommending a product with such limited information just doesn’t sit right with me. Let’s take the so-called “$1 million TikTok product,” or The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, for example. After a couple of TikToks on the product went viral, thousands and thousands of people around the globe rushed to buy the £6 exfoliant, resulting in mass sell-out (and thus big sales). And while it is no doubt a great product, there is something inside me screaming out, “IT ONLY SOLD BECAUSE IT’S RED AND LOOKS LIKE BLOOD.” And here lies my issue. It might look cool on a 15-second-long TikTok, but it’s
This Is How Every Influencer I Follow Is Wearing Tracksuits
May 12, 2020 at 06:19AM Instagram has been a very different place over the last few weeks. Glamorous images of influencers across far-flung destinations lying on beaches or exploring new cities have been replaced with images of It girls indoors sitting on their (still exceedingly chic) velvet couches in their minimally decorated homes. Though it is not only the setting of the images that have changed—the clothes have altered too. What once was images of high heels and voluminous dresses, has been replaced with casualwear and leggings. So what does the fashion girl’s at-home wardrobe consist of? As far as we can see, the absolute must is a matching tracksuit set. For Emili Sindlev, Jeanette Madsen, and Ellie of Slip Into Style, The Frankie Shop’s pastel yellow set has been the tracksuit of choice. While Brittany Bathgate and Jessie Bush have both opted for neutral tones. Regardless of the colour chosen, it seems one thing is clear: The influencer uniform of choice is a co-ordinated loungewear set. This Summer Dress Style Comes Marianne Sheridan–Approved
May 12, 2020 at 06:05AM Simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming, it’s little wonder the television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s Normal People has captured the attention of people the world over. While the complicated relationship between the book’s protagonists Marianne and Connell may be a lot to wrap your head around, there are a few aspects of the show that are much more straightforward. Namely, the fashion. Whether it be Connell’s chain (which has gained a cult-like following of adoring fans) or Marianne’s university attire, there’s no denying that the costumes felt hyper-realistic for young adults in the late noughties. And while we can’t honestly say we’d re-create all of Marianne’s Normal People looks, there is one particular part of the show where her personal style really shines. In Episode 8, the couple, along with a few friends, venture to the Italian countryside where they stay in a picturesque home owned by Marianne’s family. While there, Marianne wears a series of pretty summer dresses that perfectly complement the episode’s dreamy surroundings. At first, the character is seen in a blue gingham minidress, and next, we see her in a black fit-and-flare midi. Featuring thin shoulder straps, a square neckline and a fitted bodice, the dress contains a very flattering silhouette and is certainly one of the chicest items the character wears throughout the season. While the show is technically not set in today’s time, the dress is so timeless that several almost identical iterations have been released this summer. From high-street labels such as & Other Stories and H&M
23 Designer Pieces That Are Best to Buy Secondhand
May 12, 2020 at 06:00AM As anyone who is a keen vintage shopper will tell you, going into a secondhand store can feel like entering an Aladdin’s cave. You never know what treasures are going to be lurking in a discount box or the invaluable gems awaiting you on the next rail. It’s all about the thrill of the chase. Sadly, with shops closing their doors, this pastime is not on the cards right now, but this is where online shopping comes in. With a whole world of vintage fashion available to us at a click of a button, there’s no excuse not to try shopping secondhand right now. Whether you’re on a budget or looking for something special, there’s a platform for you. When it comes to those high-value items, I would recommend heading to Vestiaire Collective, as it offers a rigorous vetting and authentication process so you can rest easy knowing you’re not buying a fake. No, they’re not the sort of pieces that one buys on a regular basis, but in the fashion hall of fame, they certainly deserve pride of place. I’m thinking Chanel tweed jackets, Hèrmes bags, Bottega clutches, Burberry trenches and Saint Lauren tuxedos. Even if the below buys far exceed your budget (same), sometimes, it can just be nice to do a bit of window shopping and take a walk down memory lane to remind yourself of the stunning creations designers have offered the world over the years. So without further ado, I present to you the 23 “wow” vintage pieces you can find
This One Dress Trend Is Perfect for Days at Home
May 12, 2020 at 06:00AM I love a lazy fashion trend. But don’t get me wrong. I still like it to be polished, which is exactly why the nightgown trend is ideal for right now, aka endless days at home. The look arguably could be traced back to 2019’s prairie dress boom, which, with its frills, high necks and long hems, already looked a little nightgown-y. However, the nipped-in waist and heavier material prevented it from being something you’d really want to sleep in. Then along came brands such as Loreta Caponi and Sleeper offering up pale dresses with mini floral patterns that looked distinctly bed-ready and quietly sassy thanks to the ability to show off a bit of shoulder. And now? In 2020, there is an abundance of loose-fitting frocks that look exactly like you’d sleep in them. However, an addition of a delicate chain necklace and a pair of gold hoop earrings, and you’ve got yourself a chic outfit, even if it’s just for wearing around the house.
