May 08, 2020 at 06:24AM It might seem like it is too early to start thinking about sandals, but let me tell you, summer is right around the corner (or so I keep telling myself). As the days get longer and blue skies become a more common occurrence, I can’t help but think of the warm days ahead and start planning outfits for when they do arrive. Sure, it’s not quite summer just yet, but it seems high time for an at-home DIY pedicure, particularly as the high street is already packed with covetable slides, sandals and summery footwear. So let’s talk trends. Despite their jarring name, thong sandals are set to be prominent this summer, having already garnered a fan base of influencers and editors, while last year’s barely there, strappy sandals—made popular by The Row—are back for another season. This year they’re being made in various colourful shades, and last year’s kitten heels have, in many cases, been replaced with block heels (which your feet will be very happy about). Aside from that, we’ve seen an influx of square-toe mules on the high street, reminiscent of Bottega Veneta’s pair, which seemed to be omnipresent during last year’s September fashion week. And of course, there are an abundance of wear-everywhere flat slides, featuring minimalist single straps or crisscross details. These Expensive-Looking High-Street Items Are All Under £30
May 08, 2020 at 06:06AM Have you ever experienced the sheer joy of having a fashionable friend ask you where your latest item is from, only to be able to proudly tell them it was a bargain of a purchase? Let me tell you it is a thrill. There’s just something so satisfying about finding a piece in a vintage store or on the high street that looks much more expensive than its price tag would suggest. And it’s even more satisfying when you can tell people just how affordable the item actually was. With this in mind, I set out to find a few expensive-looking high-street items under £30 that could act as the subject of my next humble brag, and right now there are certainly some winners around. H&M in particular currently has a very elevated offering, featuring a billowy wrap top and a few puff-sleeve minidresses that could pass as designer. Mango has some very affordable linen pieces, while Zara, as usual, has the affordable trend-led category covered. When it comes to obtaining an expensive-looking high-street item, my tip would be to go for a timeless style. More often than not, it’s a ribbed knit tank or standard LBD that will always look elevated and expensive despite the price tag. Not to mention, these are the types of items that will stay in your closet for years to come, really ensuring you’re getting the most value for money. Keep scrolling for 20 expensive-looking high-street items that are all under £30. Style Notes:
7 Sandal Trends That We Love for 2020
May 08, 2020 at 06:00AM Seasons are becoming obsolete in fashion. Call it a response to the climate crisis or the fact that people don’t want to overhaul their wardrobes every six (or even three) months, but on the S/S 20 runways, we saw plenty of coats and items normally reserved for cooler weather. In response to this, Who What Wear’s editor Emma Spedding commented that “throwaway trends are becoming increasingly passé, and we are all looking for clothes that will have a lasting impact.” So where does that leave us with sandal trends for this year, I hear you ask? Well, instead of a dramatic change from the previous year, we’re seeing a continuation of trends that worked for us throughout the whole of spring and summer 2019. Yes, we’re talking “dad” sandals, strappy heels and minimalist footwear. However, if you’re champing at the bit for newness, then there are other trends that might fill that hole. Pastel colours are making an impact this coming season, as are platform-style sandals. Finally, I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t mention heeled flip-flops. Initially, this was a divisive microtrend that became popular at the end of last summer, but it’s guaranteed to be on the feet of every fashion person we know this coming season. Keep scrolling for all the 2020 sandal trends you need to know. Style Notes: Platform shoes aren’t always loved—especially not flatform styles. They can be inelegant and clumpy. However, The Row (of course) has
These Are the 4 Pairs of Jeans I Love From Topshop’s 2020 Drop
May 08, 2020 at 06:00AM Topshop once revealed that it sells one pair of jeans every 10 seconds. Most of us will have owned a pair of the Jamie jeans at one point or another and probably tried on the spray-on skinny Jonis, but there are currently 547 results for jeans on the Topshop website. Earlier this year, the brand launched the four new shapes it’s championing for 2020, which are quite handily named One, Two, Three and Four. Denim shopping is something many of us put off for as long as we possibly can (and, considering the current situation, is something we won’t be doing for a while), but back in February, I went into the Topshop changing rooms with the four new styles to give them a test run. What I was most impressed by during my try-on was the consistency of the sizing. Often, with jeans, I’ll have to try lots of different waist sizes, but I tried a 28-inch waist and 32-inch leg in every pair and found no discrepancies. Luckily plenty of these styles are still in stock, so if you want to buy something other than the Jamies, keep scrolling to see and shop the new Topshop jeans. Plus, Topshop have up to 30% off summer styles until 11th May. I would never normally pick up a pair of jeans like this, as they have a really oversize leg and a tapered roll-up hem, which makes them feel quite like a statement, and I feared they’d look a little scruffy or teenage on
Kate Middleton Was Just Spotted in One of Our Favourite Minimalist Brands
May 08, 2020 at 06:00AM Proving once and for all that royals are, in fact, just like us, Kate Middleton got all dressed up yesterday to appear on a video call. The duchess called in to This Morning with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield in order to discuss her new initiative Hold Still, which invites the people of the UK to create portraits of the extraordinary times we are currently living in. For her rare television appearance, the duchess opted to wear a sunny shade of yellow in the form of a long-sleeve dress by British brand Raey. The brand—which was founded by Rachael Proud, a designer who started her career at Topshop before moving on to Christopher Kane—is known for its clean, minimalist styles and crisp tailoring. While we love to see the duchess championing homegrown British brands, unfortunately, this Raey style is already sold out, as it was actually released a few summers ago. Very popular amongst the fashion set, the exact style was even worn by Monikh in the summer of 2018. Though you can’t shop this particular dress, thankfully in the years since, Raey has continued to create coveted pieces you’ll keep in your closet for seasons to come, many of which are available to shop below. In the meantime, we’ll be scrolling through Vestiaire Collective and Depop to check if anyone has decided to sell their iteration of Middleton’s yellow dress online. I Am a Dress Obsessive—and These Are My Favourites for Summer
May 08, 2020 at 06:00AM My wardrobe is approximately 50% colourful printed dresses, and as an editor at Who What Wear I’m lucky enough to spend a lot of my time indulging this obsession. Out of work, I help my friends to find wedding guest dresses and little-known dress brands, and am regularly sending links on Whatsapp as an unofficial personal shopper. I am sat writing this story in a pair of jogging bottoms I have worn for three days, and so am well aware of how few of us will be wearing dresses right now. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t looking at them. Within my role as editor I look at the stories people are reading every day, and the topic that is still the most popular right now is summer dresses. Weddings are a sensitive topic for many right now, as most spring ceremonies have been pushed back to next year and plans remain uncertain. However with my 2021 wedding diary filling up rapidly (I currently have eight for next year), I’m using this time to do my research and find dresses I really love. So the edit below includes casual every day midis you can wear at home and more formal looks that I have my eye on for 2021 and beyond. Keep scrolling to shop my edit of all the summer dress I love this year (a warning it’s a long list andwill require a lot of scrolling). Next up, see our guide to the

When It Comes to Comfy Clothes, I Think This Brand Does It Best
May 07, 2020 at 02:00PM I’m not really a joggers and T-shirt kind of girl, but there is one brand that might change my mind on tracksuits—American Vintage. The basics brand manages to do the seemingly impossible and make jersey jogging bottoms look pretty, by using soft confectionary pastels and fabrics so soft that you might never want to take them off. The knitwear has become a fashion-girl favourite, as the cardigans that are part mohair, part wool, might even be the softest knits I’ve ever touched. I know, I know, this is a bold claim. The spring collection revolves around a few hero hues—a baby pink, light blue, lilac, marigold yellow and grey—so you can easily mix and match the separates together. I’m personally a fan of the ‘feel good’ sweatshirt and matching trousers, and the pink cotton shorts and matching oversized shirt. These are basics that you can wear casually in the house, or use as building blocks to balance more statement pieces in years to come. Keep scrolling to see my favourite basics that are so comfy you’ll be tempted to sleep in them. PS. American Vintage currently has 25% off in the spring edit on Harvey Nichols. I’m 45, and These Beauty Products Make My Skin Glow Like Crazy
May 07, 2020 at 10:30AM A decade ago, the term ageing was practically a swear word. To ask a woman her age was (and, who knows, still might be) among the most tasteless questions anyone could utter. We’ve come a long way since then, but the truth is that our culture is still woefully youth-obsessed. Don’t get us wrong: Progress has been made. Among the many areas of the beauty industry that have changed for the better is the newfound sense of community and conversation dedicated to sharing the products and practices we’re each using to stay looking our best for longer. No longer are women hoarding their skincare secrets under lock and key. We’re sharing, we’re learning and best of all, more than ever, we’re prioritising healthy, happy skin and bodies over all else. Enter Catherine McCord, author and founder of family-friendly, health-conscious food community Weelicious. Not only is the 45-year-old mother of three a former model who graced the covers of major glossies and walked runways for the biggest labels, but she’s also got a wealth of knowledge about building an inner and outer skincare regimen that makes for radiant, glowing skin. Here, McCord shares her take on the generational shift from prioritising matte skin to prioritising dewy skin, the importance of applying skincare products on your neck and chest and embracing all of the oils. Your Guide to the Key Trends for Spring/Summer 2020
May 06, 2020 at 07:00PM In this new decade, throwaway trends are becoming increasingly passé, and we are all looking for clothes that will have a lasting impact within a capsule wardrobe. The spring summer 2020 runways were notably more commercial than usual, with a focus on classic legacy buys rather than whimsical and artistic creations, which could potentially fall into the fad or impractical category. Every fashion buyer I have spoken to about the fashion week in September used the word “realistic” as the overarching theme. Another buzzword for spring 2020 fashion is “wearability”—a word I am usually loathe to use to describe clothes, given it is their basic function, but it’s an adjective that keeps being used to describe the aesthetic for spring 2020. Pictured above: The Row. The headlining trends will all seamlessly transition into many of our wardrobes and stay there for the foreseeable future. One of the most in-demand items for spring, for example, is a simple blue Oxford button-down shirt by The Row, along with bodysuits, little black dresses and relaxed suiting. “Keep it simple but never boring,” is how Moda Operandi’s Lisa Aiken sums up the tone of this sensible season. “The large majority of the runway collections have been incredibly wearable, the brands have showcased the ultimate wardrobing heroes in a new and interesting way: the suit, the Bermuda short, the white shirt, the tank top…” says Elizabeth von der Goltz, Global Buying Director at Net-a-Porter. Pictured above: Jacquemus Behind this desire for more classic, timeless pieces is the topic
