May 01, 2020 at 06:00AM She spent many a morning tapping away at her laptop; pontificating on the meaning of love, men, and Manolo Blahniks; mooching ’round her flat in boxer shorts; cradling a cup of coffee; and gazing blankly out the window. Yes, I have no doubt that Carrie Bradshaw would be well-versed in the art of working from home if she lived in modern-day Manhattan. We might’ve left her immortalised in 2004, but it doesn’t take much to picture her in 2020, iPhone in hand, navigating the politics of online dating during lockdown, all the while updating her Instagram feed with arty mirror selfies and desperately tweeting Il Cantinori about its takeout service. (She hasn’t used her oven in 25 years.) Of course, we all know that in reality, a freelance writer with a designer shoe habit could never afford to live on the Upper East Side, but this is magical TV land, and we’ll take all the escapism we can get right now. So in the spirit of things, we couldn’t help but wonder what CB would wear at home had the series run today. We decided to fabricate four imaginary working-from-home looks that we would’ve loved to see Ms. Bradshaw in and included plenty of references to some of her most iconic getups but updated them for 2020. From clogs (who else would dare to attempt this trend?) and fluffy mules to blinged-up cardis and menswear shirts, scroll down to see the outfits Carrie would wear during lockdown. Style Notes: Carrie loved a good sultry slip, and I can totally imagine her lounging on Aidan’s chair, phone in hand, cocooned

Nike Socks, Bras and Shorts Have Quickly Become Sought-After Fashion Items
April 30, 2020 at 09:00PM Four times a year Lyst, the global fashion search engine, releases a list of the most popular brands and items on the planet, and its Q1 report has been significantly impacted by our shift in lifestyles. Nike has gone from the 12th most powerful brand, to take the number three spot and a pair of joggers were the 8th hottest women’s product. It’s not surprising given the surge in demand for loungewear, however Nike and New Balance are two sportswear brands that are really resonating within fashionable circles. People aren’t going for the simple Nike items either, as the consensus seems to be ‘the bigger the swoosh, the better.’ Instagram and TikTok are awash with crop tops with exaggerated Nike ticks and many are wearing white tennis socks pulled up to reveal the logo. As we are moving into summer, many are swapping jogging bottoms for track shorts, so it’s likely the Nike sweatshorts will make their way into Lyst’s top 10 for Q2. Keep scrolling to see the Nike items we love—and some ideas for how to wear them. Style Notes: Buttercup yellow tracksuits have been a real hit in fashion circles, and this Nike one is a beauty. Style Notes: Contrast a Nike crop top with an exaggerated swoosh with a tailored blazer.Style Notes: New Balance + Nike socks are a popular double act in 2020. We told you… here they are again. And again…Opt for an all-white look, with joggers, a T-shirt and Nike socks. Most of us aren’t
Hands Down, These Are the Best-Dressed TV Characters Right Now
April 30, 2020 at 06:04PM I am not ashamed to admit that I watch a lot of TV. I’d like to say it’s because I’ve got a small child, so don’t get out much, but really I’m the Augustus Gloop of watching the telly. I can watch it well into the early hours and rewatch my favourite episodes for hours. I’m the ultimate binge-watcher. From Friends and Suits to Fleabag and Game of Thrones, there are few TV series I’ve gone through that I haven’t enjoyed. Right now, I know a lot of people are watching Netflix like never before, but at Who What Wear, we’re all about fashion, so how do I marry two of my great loves? Write about the best-dressed characters on TV, of course. I’ve given it a lot of thought and have come up with my definitive list of characters whose wardrobes I’d love to raid. Before you start getting annoyed that I’ve missed your favourite out, this is just my opinion, but I really believe I’ve included something for everyone. There are outrageous dresses as well as corporate suits coming from a range of different and interesting characters played by some of the most recognisable actresses. Ready to see my list? Keep scrolling… Style Notes: Those of us in the fashion industry have been following designer Molly Goddard for some time. But when Jodie Comer playing Killing Eve assassin Villanelle popped up wearing this pink tulle creation, everyone suddenly become obsessed and it really set
Summer is Fast Approaching, Here’s the Best Sun Creams for Just About Everything
April 30, 2020 at 06:30AM You want a healthy-looking tan, it’s cool, I get it. Trust me, I really do understand where you’re coming from. I also know that it’s probably not something you’re keen for everyone to know because admitting that you like spending time in the sun seems to have become a little taboo. Beauty editors and skin experts far and wide are keen to promote the message that staying out of the sun at all costs is the best way to protect your skin from premature ageing and potentially dangerous skin conditions. However, providing you’re taking the necessary measures by applying a high-factor sun cream and not spending prolonged periods of time in direct sunlight, is wanting to spend some time in the heat of the sun something to be ashamed of? The truth is, making sure that you are applying the correct sun cream in the correct way is absolutely crucial in ensuring sun safety. “From March to October, UV levels are at their highest. I would recommend applying sunscreen to any exposed skin 15 minutes before you head outdoors,” advises Consultant Dermatologist at Garnier, Dr Justine Kluk. “It is possible to burn, tan and sustain sun damage that increases your risks of skin cancer and premature ageing from just 15 minutes of casual sun exposure without the right protection.” And this is where the issue lies. In reality, very few people do apply sun cream correctly, and thus expose themselves to damage. “Many people make the mistake of
How to Give Yourself the Ultimate At-Home Pedicure
April 30, 2020 at 06:30AM If there is one thing that I have learned about myself during this period of social distancing, it’s that I really don’t take enough care of myself. As a beauty editor, this can be a hard thing to admit. You see, I do actually dedicate an hour every evening to a rather luxurious bathing session and my twice-daily skincare routine is actually quite lengthy and excessive, but when it comes to just about anything else, I’m useless. Sadly, unless I have an appointment booked to remind me, everything from my brows to my nails gets totally neglected. One area in particular that I have found myself turning a blind eye to recently is my feet. Sure, I give them a good slathering of foot cream after my nightly bath and keep my nails in check as best as I can, but am I really giving them the time and love they need? Absolutely not. Usually, at this stage, I’d book myself in for a thorough pedicure, however with salons closed, I have had to take matters into my own hands. In a bid to get my tootsies ready for summer, I reached out to my all-round nail guru (and celebrity nail artist) Jenni Draper to take me through, step by step, how to carry out the perfect at-home pedicure. This is the part of a DIY pedi that I am always keen to forgo due to its fuss and length. The truth is though, prepping the skin on your feet is
How French Women Are Dressing for Their Living Rooms in Lockdown
April 30, 2020 at 06:17AM French women have a reputation for being inimitably stylish. After all, why else would their clothing choices, beauty routines and haircare secrets be analysed and emulated the world over? With the new normal resulting in us all staying home more than ever before, our daily clothing choices have inevitably changed. Workwear has been replaced with loungewear, and in many instances, boots and heels have surrendered their top spots as most popular footwear, making way for flats, slides and even bare feet. Right now, many of us are looking for a little inspiration on how to still get dressed properly while staying at home, and given their sought-after style, we thought why not turn to a few French women for some advice? We asked seven stylish Parisian women exactly what they are wearing at home, and as you can imagine, there isn’t a legging in sight. From airy kaftans and flattering wrap dresses to wide-leg trousers and silk shirts, these women prove that comfort is certainly key when remaining indoors, but that does not mean you have to sacrifice on style. From designers, stylists and influencers, keep scrolling see the outfits French women are wearing at home. “I am wearing Nanushka wool pants, which are very comfortable and chic at the same time. The top is Nanushka as well, but I usually wear a sweater over it. I have bare feet all the time.” “Since the lockdown, I like to go for outfits that are easy to throw on, comfortable and

How to Create the Perfect Table Setting, According to the Experts
April 30, 2020 at 06:06AM Anna de Lanoy Meijer and Nina Poot know a thing or two about chic home interiors. After all, they are the founders of Anna + Nina, a jewellery, clothing and homewares label, where one-third of their brand is dedicated to creating intricate additions for your home interior. Earlier this week, the co-founders took to Who What Wear UK’s Instagram to reveal their tips on how to create the ultimate table setting, and their advice was so good we couldn’t just let it disappear in 24 hours when the Live Story did. From their more-is-more aesthetic to their tips on clashing prints, below, the founders outline the ways in which they like to set their tables in order to bring that true restaurant feel to their homes. After all, as they noted on Instagram, “These days, we can not go out to a restaurant. So let’s let the restaurant come to us!” So whether you’re in the market for a few new placemats, some talking-point cutlery, a centerpiece candle holder or simply want to know how to bring all these items together, keep scrolling for four tips on how to create the perfect table setting. “To us, there are no rules. Your dinner should be a party, and your table should look like one. Mix and match. Find a print, a table cloth or a napkin that you love, and work around it. We believe in more is more and love to combine different patterns, stripes and colours with
This Is the Trending Jeans Style for Summer—and It’s Super Comfy
April 30, 2020 at 06:00AM I don’t think there’s anything new you can say about jeans. Even if they’re not the item you wear all the time, everyone owns at least one pair. Since the 1960s, they have been a mainstay in our wardrobes—they are the piece that anchors so many of our outfits. From weekend looks to casual dinners as well as that nice-top-and-jeans ensemble, they’re the background noise of our closets. They only make a real impact if you focus on them, and they let the other pieces in your outfit shine. If, like me, you’ve spent less time in jeans, preferring to wear leggings or smart trackies as you live out lockdown, then you might be wondering why you’d even bother wearing them again. Well, firstly, this situation won’t last forever, and secondly, 2020’s summer jeans trend is comfier than you might be expecting. When I asked Natalie Kingham, fashion and buying director at MATCHESFASHION, what kind of styles are in for this coming season, she revealed that “straight-leg styles account for close to 60% of sales, but the shape generating the most growth is Boyfriend, which is +100% year on year.” The S/S 20 runways predicted that this style would be huge, as from Balenciaga to Celine and Gucci, the straight-leg looser-fit jeans were everywhere. But we don’t just take runway trends at face value. Street stylers at the shows last season were also wearing long, wider-leg styles. In terms of colours, it’s a real range
7 Influencers Who Have Perfected the Art of the Fashion Uniform
April 30, 2020 at 06:00AM How to ‘discover your personal style’ is one of those illusive #lifegoals that has been pondered by fashion magazines for decades and, undoubtedly, baffled women for an similar period of time. The way it’s phrased somehow infers that this is something that should spontaneously pop into your mind’s eye after you’ve put in the required number of hours staring blankly at your open wardrobe. The reality, however, is not quite so transactional, and some people will pin-down their ‘look’ at the age of 16, while others need a longer period of experiment to refine their taste. To be honest, there’s also nothing stopping you from constantly reinventing your style every 5 years—this is not, after all, some sort of life-long binding contract. Yet, I also can’t deny that there is something so alluring about the idea of finding your ‘uniform‘— if nothing else so you can sneak in a couple more hours in bed in the morning due to having a good sense of what works. I also think that as we move into a more sustainable future, there’s something to be said for investing in pieces that are timeless—and by that I mean styles that you’ll want to wear both now and in 5 years’ time. And no, that doesn’t have to mean becoming an austere minimalist (although that certainly makes things easier). There are plenty of print-loving editors who have stuck to their extroverted staples for decades. It was Brittany Bathgate who triggered these contemplations on personal style. I was scrolling deep into her feed (for writing, not stalking purposes), and was impressed at how her outfits felt so consistent
