While once considered a craft project, reserved for nineties art classes or at-home hobbyists, the trend has well and truly infiltrated the fashion industry in recent years, with designer labels—including Dior and Versace among them—creating their own kaleidoscopic iterations. From T-shirts and tracksuits to dresses and socks, colourful dye is being splashed across any and every item of clothing these days, creating a plethora of rainbow-hued options for tie-dye enthusiasts. But whether you’re WFH or heading out for your usual 9-to-5, trying to save the pennies or looking for a new season pick-me-up, we hope we can bring you a bit of fashion-based escapism in the form of delectable dresses, chic accessories and anything-but-boring basics. But until red carpets and street style are a thing again, we have Instagram and the occasional walk around the neighborhood as our opportunities to see what celebrities are wearing. Lopez is currently with her family in Miami, and went outside momentarily wearing shorts. Her timing is perfect, as it’s quickly becoming too warm for a wardrobe of just sweatpants and leggings, so let’s talk about shorts. As you know, pleated pants and jeans were deemed somewhat controversial up until recently, but everyone started wearing them last year, including J.Lo. So it’s only natural that she’d wear the shorts version of the trend now that it’s a balmy 88 degrees in Miami (and other parts of the country). It’s another signal that denim cut-offs continue to fall by the wayside as Bermuda shorts, sweat shorts, and yes, pleated shorts rise. The honest reason is that they’re the easiest item to throw on while still looking put-together. I also find dresses to be one of the most comfortable options when the weather takes a turn for the hot and sticky, especially in comparison to my other go-to: denim. Not that you necessarily needed further convincing, but I’m definitely not the only one on the daily dress-wearing train. Besides loungewear, I almost exclusively scroll through dress outfits on my Instagram feed. Currently, I’ve got my eyes on Niké Ojekunle, a Nigerian-born and L.A.-based fashion and skincare blogger who tells me her polished style is loosely inspired by Old Hollywood.
